In January we announced our focus for the year: “COMMUNITY.CONNECT.COLLABORATE.CULTIVATE.” The Chamber community has embraced this call to action and we have seen these words come alive. Therefore; we would like to add another word to our focus: CELEBRATE!!
Join us for our Appreciation and Celebration Event (formerly known as Annual Meeting) on June 23rd at 7 Sounds Brewery. All of the details are below about the event.
Now let me circle back to our word of the month CELEBRATE. Join us in recognizing that there is cause to celebrate every day. Celebration is an attitude! It is seeing the "sunny side of the street". It is giving yourself permission to say you, your family, your business, and the community where we live is awesome! Celebrate daily!! And don’t be shy about telling everyone why you are celebrating!
We will be celebrating right there with you every day and hope to see you at every event this month! We have special celebrations every week in June! We are excited, enthused, and grateful to be a part of each and every celebration for our members. Please come and support your fellow Chamber members.
Our business community is growing and thriving. Our Home and Garden Expo was a success and it was wonderful to see our community come and visit with our businesses, but also to see our members connect and cultivate business to business relationships! To date, we have had 46 businesses join the Chamber. Our Chamber community is strong and getting stronger every day. We love to talk with you, our members, and talk about you in the community. If you have new products or services or initiatives you want to share, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to promote you, support you, help make meaningful connections for you, and celebrate you! We will be talking!
Serving You,
Anya Davis

WHY WOMEN OVER 50?
I started a portrait series which will end in a gallery exhibition and celebration. My goal is to photograph twenty incredible women of beauty, strength, and grace, showcase their portraits and tell their stories, so people can see what 50 really looks like, be inspired, and celebrate with them.
I've got 20+ reasons why you should sign up to be a part of it. Do you have the time to read them all?
Here are my top three reasons:
- They deserve to feel beautiful and they deserve to be seen. THIS IS 50+ portrait experience is all about making them feel special, and showing the different sides of who they are.
- Old is not a dirty word. Aging is simply a part of the life we have been given, and if you're not growing older, you're dead. So we celebrate life, every stage of it.
-
We photograph things that are remarkable. And 50 years on earth is remarkable. As is 60, 70, 80, and on. Portraits are about people, and if anyone deserves to have a beautiful portrait of them done, it is the people who have lived.
So I hope you'll join me and the other women who will tell their stories and inspire others to exist in beautiful portraits they love, at every age.

Hopeline’s Clothesline Thrift Store – did you know???
… that Hopeline’s Clothesline Thrift Store accepts donations of SO much more than just clothing??? Our most needed items are household goods such as small furniture, décor, kitchen items, linens, holiday items, toys, books, and other goods.
… that items donated to Hopeline’s Clothesline are made available free of charge to victims of domestic and sexual violence who are clients of Albemarle Hopeline? Some families come to shelter with only the clothes on their back, and many of our clients need household items when moving out of shelter and into permanent safe housing.
… that Hopeline’s Clothesline has a textile recycling program for stained, ripped, or otherwise unsellable clothing? We can accept not only damaged clothing, but also linens, small rugs, and shoes- even if they aren’t in matching pairs. Please bag recyclable items separately and inform staff when dropping off.

Since Habitat for Humanity was founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in cooperation with Clarence and Florence Jordan, founders of Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia in the 1973, affiliates have sold houses to individuals who were able to pay a zero-interest mortgage. Homeowners pay principal, taxes and insurance.
Affiliates pay for materials up-front, and the principal payments go toward construction of other houses. This amount is not enough to pay all of the construction costs, especially with the rising prices for lumber and land. This was the reason that affiliates started opening ReStores. The stores sell items at low prices and the money takes care of local expenses and adds to the building fund.
Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity opened its store seven years ago. Sales from our store have enabled us to build one new house and rehab four houses in the intervening years, positively impacting the lives of 16 people. We are now anticipating purchasing a building for our store and moving to a new location. Our store is one of our primary sources of income.
To defray expenses related to the purchase of the new building, we are starting a capital campaign with the goal of raising $50,000. We hope you will join us in this endeavor. A representative will be contacting local businesses and individuals shortly to request donations. Please be generous. If you would like to contribute now, please contact Norma James at Taylor Mueller Realty, 440 S. Hughes Blvd., 252-331-2233.

Coming Soon – An Entrepreneur/Small Business Resource Hub
As you travel downtown on Church Street, you may have seen a property at the corner of Pool and Church Streets that is in the process of renovation. This property will soon become Entrepreneur Resources Business Support Center (Entre-BSC). Entrepreneur Resources is a new venture from the well-known business, Workforce Resources, Inc., and is being embarked upon to support entrepreneurs and small business owners in operating, innovating, and growing their businesses. We believe this dynamic space will fill a gap not currently being met in the Elizabeth City downtown area, and we hope it is a resource worth waiting for!
Located at 206 E. Church Street, this Center will provide two floors of reasonably-priced office space and serve as a platform for success. We will offer various flexible options for accessing the desired services with NO long-term contracts. So, whether you are in need of a commercial mailing address; desire phone answering services; require a place to work, hold business meetings, or conduct employee onboarding/training; or would benefit from collaborating with other business owners, Entre-BSC is the place for you! We will provide access to subject matter experts in areas such as business development, finance, project management, and government contracting; we will also offer administrative support services to assist with back-office tasks. It is anticipated to be a comfortable space that supports not only business operation but creativity and innovation as well.
We are hopeful that Entre-BSC will be up and running within the next six months. We’re down to the studs and ready to build back up. Our intent is to show progress on the renovation every other month or so; with those updates we will be able to better determine when our grand opening will be.
Should you have questions during the renovation period, feel free to contact us at (252) 336-6800, or take a peek at our website at www.Entre-bsc.com. We look forward to speaking with all interested parties in the very near future.
