St. Johns County Election News and Updates      January 2024

Good afternoon St. Johns County voters,

We are less than two months away from the first election of 2024, the March 19th Presidential Preference Primary Election. The time to be election ready is now. To help prepare voters for the election, the new Citizen’s Guide to the Presidential Preference Primary Election was mailed out to 137,329 St. Johns County residences last week. The guide has proven to be one of our strongest tools in providing accessibility to the voting tools made available by the St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections Office.

In this guide, voters will learn the difference between the three elections taking place this year: the March 19th Presidential Preference Primary Election, the August 20th Primary Election, and the November 5th General Election. One of the most important topics in this guide is voter eligibility. The March 19th Presidential Preference Primary Election is only open to registered Republican voters and voters residing in the City of St. Augustine.

The guide also provides vital basic voter information such as how to register to vote or update your information, request a vote-by-mail ballot, find your polling place, locate an early voting site, and more. If you haven’t taken a trip to your mailbox yet, the guide is available online in English and Spanish at www.votesjc.gov/voter-education-materials.

DEADLINE APPROACHING: February 20th is the deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation for the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Election.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Elections Office at 904-823-2238.

What Happens When a Candidate

Suspends Their Campaign?

If a presidential candidate has suspended their campaign, will they still be on the Presidential Preference Primary Election ballot?

Yes! Florida law provides a deadline by when major party presidential candidate nominees for the Presidential Preference Primary Election must submit a notice of withdrawal in accordance with section 103.101(3), F.S.

After that deadline, the names of candidate nominees who did not withdraw MUST REMAIN on the Presidential Preference Primary Election (PPPE) ballot for that respective party, regardless of whether the nominee suspends or withdraws from campaigning before the election.

Updated Polling Place List

On January 17th, the St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections officially published the polling place list for the 2024 elections. The list, available online, has some changes from last year. Affected voters residing in the precincts whose Election Day polling places have been relocated have received voter information cards in the mail. We ask that voters review their cards carefully, and also visit www.votesjc.gov/find-my-polling-place before heading out to the polls on Election Day!
