In 2016 the numbers of requests by senior females seeking temporary emergency housing has increased by 50% and because of the limited number of safe facilities to refer women to we are in the process of opening a 24 hour female only house to refer those seeking help. This will not be a shelter but only limited to seniors that are discharged from a valley hospital or referred by an approved social service agency or meet certain conditions
Since 2010 Elder HelpLv has provided over 20,000 free referrals for resources and/or services!
Elder HelpLv volunteers work in many ways to discover the needs of seniors and use the resources of their Preferred Provider Network to assist them through one-on-one surveys, a centralized 24 hour senior resource hotline, monthly community events, a weekly newsletter reaching over 5,000 recipients and the Curcarlin House which provides Senior Emergency Housing.
Elder HelpLv matches seniors with pre-screened elder care service providers based on basic information that providers make available to us.

Senior Safety Tips
The following Safety Tips were compiled, in cooperation with the LAPD Crime Prevention Section, to contribute to the safety and security of people during the holiday season.
Driving Avoid driving alone or at night.
Keep all car doors locked and windows closed while in or out of your car. Set your alarm or use an anti-theft device. If you must shop at night, park in a well-lighted area. Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows.
Park as close as you can to your destination and take notice of where you parked.
Never leave your car unoccupied with the motor running or with children inside.
Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car. This creates a temptation for thieves. If you must leave something in the car, lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight.
Be sure to locate your keys prior to going to your car.
Keep a secure hold on your purse, handbag and parcels. Do not put them down or on top of the car in order to open the door.
When approaching or leaving your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings.
Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area.
Ask mall or store security for an escort before leaving your shopping location.
Search Transitional Housing Currently we have over 5,501 transitional housing shelters in our database. We also provide as much information on each housing location along with pictures. Call 800-334-8893 to speak with an alcohol or drug abuse counselor

Keep your elder safe with skilled care
Do you have an elderly loved one who is resistant to moving out of their home, but is no longer able to fully care for themselves Many of our loved ones feel the most secure and comfortable when in their own home.
But, what if your parent had a fall, or forgot to take important medication? If there are ongoing concerns about their ability to remain safely at home by themselves now may be a good time to explore in-home care options. These options will help your loved one to "age in place" -- that is to live in their homes for as long as possible.
Home care could be the solution
In-home care services can offer a range of services, from meal preparation to grocery shopping to housekeeping, bathing assistance to administration of medication.
There are two types of home care:
Custodial care. Also called "home care," "personal care," or "companion care," this type of in-home care revolves around help with daily living activities such as cooking, bathing or shopping.
Skilled care. May also be referred to as "medical care" or "home health care," skilled care includes care that can only be provided by a medical professional, such as administering medication or wound care.
If you are thinking about home care or are ready to find a home care provider, let
Elder Helplv connect you with resources near you.

How seniors use our services
Elder HelpLv matches seniors with pre-screened elder care service providers based on basic information that providers make available to us. The seniors specific needs are gathered through our online survey www.elderhelplv.org (an " Assessment"), as well as in-person surveys completed in the field by our field survey takers, which they complete and submit to us. The results from the Assessment are then compared against the provider information in our proprietary database. We will identify the providers from our network in their particular geographic area and services provided which meets the needs that the senior has identified for us, we forward the information to the senior as well as the member provider.
