Miami – September 12, 2024 – Venezuelan singer-songwriter Marcelo Rubio releases his highly anticipated debut album, “Lo que escribí mientras no estabas :)” today. This autobiographical journey through heartache and healing is now available on all digital platforms via Sony Music Latin.
The album's 12 tracks unfold like pages from Marcelo's diary, each representing a month-long emotional journey. Listeners are transported to a musical universe where stars, the moon, a pencil, and a sheet of paper witness three phases of moving on: nostalgia, anger, and the peace of a new beginning. This chronological narrative creates a compelling story of personal growth and recovery.
"More than just a 12-song album, this is a musical diary that chronicles my journey through nostalgia, anger, and ultimately, healing," says Marcelo. "Each song represents a month in this emotional process. Although the album is called Lo que escribí mientras no estabas :), it's not a sad record. Yes, there are nostalgic moments and flashes of anger, but at its core, it's an album that conveys hope. I aim for those who relate to these songs to find solace, reminding them that there's always light at the end of the tunnel," he adds.
“Cómo hacer pa que no duela?” is the album's focus track, capturing Marcelo's internal struggle to ease his pain during the fifth week of zero contact.
In “Lo que escribí mientras no estabas :),” the Venezuelan breaks away from conventional romantic genre patterns. He modernizes lyrics through innovative melodies and disruptive sound design, blending contemporary pop elements with traditional ballads' emotional honesty to create a fresh, authentic sound.
Marcelo penned this production, with both composition and production crafted alongside a talented team of collaborators. It features special collaborations with Puerto Rican singer Robi on “Vas a volver?” and fellow Venezuelan Noreh on “Puede que esto no mejore :/,” enriching Marcelo's musical narrative.
Through his debut album, Marcelo demonstrates his ability to use music as a catalyst for emotions, capable of turning darkness into light. Throughout "Lo que escribí mientras no estabas :)" (What I Wrote While You Weren’t Here :)), listeners will witness, in a deeply intimate way, Marcelo's shift in emotional perspective and identify the moment when pain transforms into happiness.
Four songs from this musical diary have already been released: “Luna (pag. 1),” “Besos desechables,” “Reír pa no llorar,” and “Pídeme a las 11:11.”
Marcelo is part of a new wave of artists championing romantic pop. He draws inspiration from Camilo, fellow Venezuelan Danny Ocean, Colombian supergroup Morat, and one of the greatest exponents of romantic music, Alejandro Sanz.
Marcelo's musical journey began at the tender age of 9 when he won the "Mini Student Idol" contest in his hometown of Cumaná. At 13, he was chosen as "Mini Marc Anthony" in the competition "Mini Estrellas" produced by Venevisión, Venezuela's leading television network. A few years later, Marcelo moved to Miami, Florida, where he resides.
