Happy Thanksgiving!

We are Grateful to have You in

Our D23 Family!

Dear Eisenhower Families

We hope that everyone has a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving Break with family and friends. The upcoming holiday season always brings many enjoyable commitments and events that keep us quite busy over the span of the next seven weeks. It's at this time of year that we just want to remind our families to keep up the good nightly reading and review routines you established during our first trimester of learning. As you know, the second trimester of learning is punctuated with multiple holidays and breaks. Continue to check out a weekly set of books from your local library, enjoying stories together, and adding titles to your Century Book Club Reading List. Use holiday and seasonal items and objects to make activities fun and engaging. Have your child help with counting the number of guests or slices of pie you need to serve. Let them add up the number of decorations that are adorning the house. Have them share in reading the ingredient list, while also helping to gather, measure, mix, and prepare the meal with you. Not only will they learn many practical life skills, but they will enjoy the added responsibility of helping you. We hope that the upcoming holiday season brings all of our families many cherished memories.

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving,

Your Eisenhower Family

Strategic Plan

Family Communication Survey

One of our Strategic Goal areas is Communication, and we want to hear from you! Specifically, we are gathering data on your thoughts and feedback on our building and district communication along with the communication method(s) you find most useful. As we have looked at our data, we see that our principal newsletters are opened by over 90% of our families. That's great! Still, we continue to enhance our communication to make sure important messages about learning and safety make it home to you.

We have a short survey (HERE)

that will be open through the end of November. We will have opportunities to take this short survey at Parent/Teacher Conferences as well. Thanks, as always, for your feedback and active participation. Together, we are #PROUD2BD23!

Early Childhood

In Early Childhood, students are learning about their emotions through their Second Step lessons at circle and small group time. To help engage the students, the curriculum presents lessons in the form of puppet shows, picture talks, and games. Students are practicing identifying their emotions throughout the day and utilizing the “feelings buddies'' to talk about their feelings. Teachers are teaching strategies and providing students with tools to help them work through challenging or big feelings. They are using “I feel, I choose” statements to pair their emotions with a choice to alter or maintain their state of mind. It is great to see our students checking in on their classmates offering support.

Kindergarten

During our Kindergarten Second Step lessons we have been focusing on identifying a variety of emotions. The children are working on reading body language, facial expressions and cues from their environment to understand how others are feeling around them.

First Grade

In first grade we have been working on identifying feelings in ourselves and others by looking at faces, bodies and what is happening around them. Have your child practice sharing how they are feeling and identifying how others in the family might be feeling by using these clues!

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
