Dear Teachers and Parents,
|
Join us for our newly re-branded student education program, Remembering the Builders. The new name reflects our effort to focus on sharing the many facets of history and ensuring that we are celebrating the contributions of our builders.
With this upcoming school year 2023-2024, Mission San Juan Capistrano will debut a brand new self-guided audio tour, "If These Walls Could Talk" for California students. The new audio tour meets the State of California's curriculum standards for learning. During the Tour, learners will hear many perspectives, discover new ways of thinking about the efforts of the Church and the impacts to the native people. As part of our efforts, each 4th grader receives a FREE Remembering the Builders bracelet to commemorate their visit, and reflect on what they learned long after their Field Trip.
About Our New Self-Guided Audio Tour
Learners hear about adobe brick-making and the industry of the missions that led to products that are still used today as household items, consumables, and religious items for worship. Learners will be engaged by the age-appropriate messaging and pace that aims to keep active minds thinking and pondering about the meaning of history and their role in the bigger world today. The tour implements simple technology for hands-on experience that is self-directed and requires learners of all kinds to merely start and stop at designated locations. The experience is one that can be enjoyed by children that are especially auditory and can be taken at a pace that respects the needs of the learner.
Mission San Juan Capistrano is proud to be the leading landmark in California striving to provide a learning experience that embraces a varied perspective of the chapters of history and encourages deeper consideration and contemplation. We are dedicated to educating, inspiring, and impacting our learners in a way that cultivates respect and appreciation for the past while broadening our understanding of what it means to live in a modern society today.
Sincerely,
Mechelle Lawrence Adams, Executive Director
