Greetings!
This week, I will be halfway through my first term in office as your Alderman. On the night I was elected, I remember telling people that I felt so fortunate to have the opportunity to be active in the community on a full-time basis rather than just part-time. It is demanding work, but having the opportunity to make a difference in so many people's lives makes the demands of this job all worth it.
As we start releasing the revised 46th Ward Master Plan in sections, I'd like to take this opportunity to mention a few highlights in each of the sections, starting with Economic Development. Next to downtown Chicago, the 46th Ward has been one of the busiest wards in the City when it comes to development. In the past 2 years, the following has occurred:
- The development of a Zoning & Development Committee made up of over 30 different community organizations throughout the ward that vote on zoning changes and proposed developments
- The commitment of a $203 million for a complete makeover of the Wilson L Station
- The sale of the Chateau Hotel, a building that had horrible living conditions and hundreds of code violations
- A $82 million planned development at 3740 N. Halsted, which was the first major project vetted through the Zoning & Development Committee
- The creation of an Entertainment District centered around 3 large entertainment venues: the Riviera, the Aragon Ballroom, and the Uptown Theatre
- The Zoning & Development Committee's review of a $230 million development at the old Columbus Maryville site at Montrose/Clarendon
- Many new businesses that are turning people's heads and making them excited to live in this ward: Some of these new businesses include Waffles Restaurant at 3617 N. Broadway, Baker & Nosh at 1303 W. Wilson and their new neighbor Forget Me Knodt, a creative flower shop at 1313 W. Wilson.
In the beginning of my term, the 46th Ward Master Plan noted that many of you did most of your shopping outside the ward. We're giving residents like you more reasons to spend your money right where you live. We're on a roll to making the 46th Ward a great place for business & job opportunities.

Neighborhood Parties Needing A Street Closure If your neighborhood organization needs to close off a street to host a party, you will need to submit your application for a street closure at least 30 or more days in advance. For more information about hosting a party on your street, click here. People's Music SchoolPlaying a musical instrument teaches children self-discipline, an ability to collaborate with others, and interestingly enough, it can improve their math skills. A few weeks ago, I donated my guitar to the People's Music School so that a child could have the opportunity to play a musical instrument. Your support of the People's Music School can help to forever change the life of a young child. To learn more about the People's Music School and their upcoming programs, click here.
