Eastview Elementary School Times

262-348-6000000

Dear Eastview Families and Friends,

Thank you to all of our teachers, staff, students, and parents for making our September a great first month of school! This month, we focused heavily on building relationships with students. We know how important it is for students to feel safe, supported, and cared for at school in order for them to grow as learners. I hope that your students have shared some of the fun activities that they have done in their classrooms this month. Additionally, we have been working on our SOAR expectations and routines with students. Each morning, we have devoted morning meeting time to discussing and modeling Eastview expectations with our students. We are proud of the progress that our students have shown in only a few weeks. Lastly, students have been busy both in and out of our classrooms. In our classrooms, students have been working on academics in the areas of math, ELA, science, and social studies. Outside of the classroom, we have many students participating in our Lighted School House activities.

During the month of October, as a part of our SOAR expectations, we will be focusing on the trait of responsibility. Teachers will be working with students to identify their responsibilities as students in the classroom and as citizens in our Eastview community. Additionally, to gain information about our students as learners, we will be completing a few assessment pieces, including running records and the I-Ready assessment. Both of these assessments will give us powerful information about your student as a learner. Finally, some additional notable events this month include the Badger Homecoming Week celebration; our elementary school cross country meet; and the Scholastic Book Fair and Parent-Teacher conferences, both of which will be held at the end of the month.

As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. We thank you for your continued support and for being a part of our Eastview community.

Wishing you a wonderful Fall season,

Mrs. Erin Zigler

We are pleased to introduce two new staff members

who have joined our Eastview family this year!

Mrs. Anne Doebler is our new music teacher. Her undergraduate degree is a BA in Music Education from UW-Whitewater, with teaching certifications in PreK-12 General Music and 6-12 Choral Music. She also has a Masters of Curriculum & Instruction from National-Louis University.

"For the last 16 years, I have had the privilege of teaching music part-time in a variety of settings within the Lake Geneva community. These part-time opportunities have allowed me to pursue my career while also being a part-time at-home mom.

My husband Neil and I have 5 children: 4 boys and 1 girl, ages 6 to 17. We moved to Lake Geneva in 2006 just because we loved the town and have never regretted it! Reading mystery novels is a favorite pastime of mine, as is doing crossword puzzles and giving some extra love to my perennial flower gardens. Our children’s activities keep us joyfully busy too.

We have two dogs; a tan labradoodle named Indy (Indiana) and a little Cavapoo named Oreo. They will both turn five in November and always make life a bit crazier in the best of ways!

I look forward to seeing all of the students weekly, and growing together as life-long learners and explorers!"

Mrs. Carrie Muffler is our school psychologist.  Mrs. Muffler has a BA in Psychology and Criminal Justice from UW-Milwaukee, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Cardinal Stritch University, and a second Masters in Educational Psychology from Alverno College..

"I am proud to introduce myself as the newest member of the school psychology team here in Lake Geneva! I will be working at both the middle school and Eastview Elementary. I have a long history working in the field of mental health, but I am new to the world of education. I am married with two children. I live in Mukwonago, and I enjoy the outdoors and animals. I hope to be a resource for students, their families, and staff. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to work with the students."

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held October 27-28.

Sign Up Information will be emailed

and flyers will be sent home on October 14.

Parents, one of the most significant ways you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school, on time, each and every day.  The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school.  High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement.  Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school.  I want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.

When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence.  When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:

  1. Call Mrs. Grelyak in the main office at 262-348-6000 to speak with her and/or leave a message by 9:30 AM each day.
  2. New this year, you may login to Powerschool to record the reason for your child’s absence.  Please see the directions linked here.

We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and doctor appointments, ahead of time.  When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification.  When leaving for an extended vacation, we also ask that you complete the planned absence request form LINKED HERE.

Lastly, please also note, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns.  Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can.  As a parent, it is important to understand the current attendance laws stated below:

  • A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children 10 days during the school year.  After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc.  The same guidelines apply for excessive tardies.
  • Once a student has been absent for 10 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter, noting the absences as well as procedures for next steps to improve attendance

Thank you in advance for your commitment and support to your child’s attendance this school year.

***PARENTS OF BAND AND ORCHESTRA STUDENTS***

PLEASE NOTE THIS INFORMATION ON THE

LGMS STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP TRAFFIC PATTERN

The lane used for Drop Off and Pick Up is for ONE WAY traffic. You will only be able to enter from the south end of the loop (closest to the football field). In addition, parking will only be allowed on the curb side. Thank you for being patient during this time. This area gets very busy and we want to make sure that all of our students are safe.

***If you have high school drivers dropping off your student(s), please remind them to slow down and leave earlier.***

Thank you for helping to make LGMS a safer place!

Congratulations to this month's winners of

TEACHER TRIVIA!

(the answer was Mr. Kirst!)

Our Fall Book Fair will be taking place in the Library

on Monday, October 24 through Thursday, October 27.

Each classroom will be assigned times to shop.

The Book Fair will also be open select hours during

Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 27 and 28.

For online ordering, to preview books, and to load

the convenient eWallet, please visit Scholastic at:

October 17-21 is

NATIONAL DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP WEEK

We will be spending some time discussing how to be safe, ethical and SMART consumers of information and technology. Parents, please partner with us in these efforts to keep our students safe online!

This month in the library, we will be discussing the different genres, or different types or categories of writing. How many can your child name?

Did you know?

4th and 5th graders are now able to log in to their Library Destiny account to view the MyInfo tab, where their checked out books appear. Please ask your child to show you this added feature.

If you have any specific questions, please email your librarian: maryjo.fesenmaier@badger.k12.wi.us .

School attendance is very important, and we encourage families to make sure their children are in school as much as possible. However, children who are sick need to stay home for their well-being and to prevent others from becoming sick.
