Greetings from the Cultural District Partnership Team!
The District hosted a successful Arts and Media Show last month with broad community participation that attracted more than 200 visitors. Guests explored the different artworks and connected with the incredibly talented artisans who created them. The show featured artists using various mediums from many cultures and abilities and was planned with a lens of ADA accessibility for the artists and the guests.
Our partners at Easton Community Access Television streamed the event, which featured a plaque dedication honoring the late Easton philanthropist Avery “Lee” Williams and his wife, Betty, to their family.
In a touching tribute to Lee's love for Elvis, an impersonator captivated the crowd with renditions of the legendary crooner's hits. And let's not forget about the very pleasing music by talented guitarist Dave Spagone, the delicious appetizers from Pairings Catering & Events and the refreshing beverages courtesy of Shovel Town Brewery that added that extra touch of enjoyment to the day.
This event was funded by a generous grant from Mass Cultural Council and the Avery Lee Williams Foundation.
We are now preparing for the popular Summer Concert Series on Wednesdays July 17th to August 21 with the End of Summer Finale Festival on September 22. Stay tuned for more details.

ARTIST ON DISPLAY
at TOWN HALL
The Town of Easton and the Easton Shovel Town Cultural District recently launched an Artist on Display initiative at Town Hall.
The exhibit will feature a rotating display of artwork for the enjoyment and appreciation of the public and honors the important role that art plays in our community.
At a recent Select Board meeting, emerging artists John Januskis and Ray Harris, who are also members of the House of Possibilities, were recognized as the first artists to have their art on display as part of this initiative.
House of Possibilities (HOPe) provides disability services to over 300 children and adults annually from over 60 communities across Massachusetts.
In partnership with HOPe for the first display, we hope to highlight the benefits of art for all people and to foster a more vibrant and inclusive community.

Floral Flag, 2024
The red Poppy flowers symbolizes remembrance of the fallen soldier and I usually see them in somber memorial paintings. When I think of the fallen soldiers I once served with, I like to focus on the positive memories and the brightness they brought into my life and that is what moved me to create this painting.

Veteran and Easton Native
Rose McPherson is the next
Artist on Display
at Easton Town Hall
Rose is an emerging artist who recently left the corporate world behind and launched her new business, Rosie Rose Rising Art. She graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 2006 and served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard in Iraq in 2009.
Rose’s artwork reflects her sunny personality but also offers insight into her experience serving in Iraq in Operation Iraqi Freedom. By showcasing Rose’s artwork, strengths and talents, we hope to bring awareness and understanding of her unique experiences, emphasize the vital healing nature of creative expression, and express our gratitude to Rose for her service to our country.
Rose McPherson
Massachusetts based artist, born and raised in Easton
I graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 2006, served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard in Iraq in 2009, spent years as an administrative professional in the legal and finance industries. Over the past few years, I have been called to create more art so I left the corporate world behind and launched my business, Rosie Rose Rising Art, in 2023.
I work primarily with acrylics on canvas but occasionally use watercolors and oils on other mediums such as wood and other found objects. My paintings celebrate life and add an extra brightness to everyday moments and within everyday things.

About the Cultural District | |
|
A Cultural District is a walkable, compact area easily identifiable to visitors and serves as a center of cultural, artistic, and economic activity. One of only 55 state-sponsored Cultural Districts in Massachusetts, Easton’s own Shovel Town Cultural District, located within one of the Town’s four National Register Historic Districts, offers a vibrant creative and culinary arts sector as well as a broad range of historical, architectural, natural, recreational and agricultural resources.
The Cultural District Management Partnership Team works to support local artists, bring free or low-cost events to the community and increase visibility and visitation to our local businesses. The Easton Shovel Town Cultural District is a valuable asset that promotes local arts and culture, drives business and economic growth to our local economy, and strengthens the well-being of our community.
