April 2017
Photo of the Month

Another project is complete showcasing our new logo! Since the Tour Center opened in 2012, we've had our existing logo painted on the floor. Now we've "spilled milk" all over it and painted our new one. It makes for a bright, cheerful welcome to our Tour Center!

By the way, our Tour Center in Hudson makes a great venue for graduations, birthdays, showers, reunions and other parties. We have full kitchen, refrigerator/freezer, large 8' serving island, and seating for up to 80 guests. See our Tour Center Rental page on our website for more information.

Call Jordan at (319) 988-9834 with any questions and to rent the space. Alternate small party space is available to reserve at our location in Waterloo. Call the Waterloo store for more details, (319) 234-3309.

Also, don't forget about all the products we sell to serve at your event! We've got meats, cheeses, popcorn, chips, salsa, hummus, ice cream and custom ice cream cakes to suit your needs.

Cash Cow

There were no CA$H COW winners in our contest last month :(. And since no one found the three jugs labeled with $100 in March, this month there will be four $100 jugs out there. Best chance to find one is right away at the beginning of the month! But make sure to keep looking throughout the month as we mark ten $5 jugs every week!
Look inside the jug toward the label to see a "5" or "100".

Easter hams available without pre-order
New this year for our ham customers -- we will not be taking pre-orders! Hams will be available beginning Tuesday, April 4.

We are offering the same ham choices this year for Easter, but they will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We recommend stopping in early to purchase your ham. We will be glad to hold your ham for you until Easter but it must be paid for.

Uncured ABF (Antibiotic-Free) Ham
Beeler's hams, of Lemars, Iowa, are bone-in, uncured and fully cooked. We will have a limited supply of whole hams (14-15 pounds) and half hams (7-8 pounds).

Customer of the Month
Adam Eichhorn
The April Customer of the Month is Adam Eichhorn of Cedar Falls.

Adam's family began drinking Hansen's milk a few years ago on a friend's recommendation.

"We have been drinking it ever since we tried it," Adam says.

His wife, Season, also enjoys the local honey and the farm-fresh eggs. Their children, Jobe, Cohen and Evalynn, like to stop by the Cedar Falls store on a hot summer day to have some soft-serve ice cream in a cone.

"Above all of this is the milk," Adam says. "The fresh taste keeps us coming back. Thanks for the awesome, fresh-tasting milk!"

And THANK YOU, Adam, for being a loyal customer! Customers of the Month will receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook page.
Cow of the Month
The April Cow of the Month is Lasagna. She is a young cow and had her first calf about 6 months ago, a heifer we named Lularoe. We do all of our breeding by artificial insemination, which means we keep semen frozen until we are ready to use it. Lasagna was bred to a bull named Astronaut, who lived more than 50 years ago! This bull has been known to produce strong daughters, and Lasagna herself has a great mammary system and feet/legs. That means Lularoe should grow up to be a nice sturdy cow too!

Lasagna is very friendly. If anyone has visited our farm on a hands-on tour already this year, they likely milked Lasagna. She is a patient cow and tolerates lots of visitors trying their hand at milking!
Cooking with Hansen's
Easter has us thinking about eggs. If you're hosting an Easter dinner, try this egg bake to feed the breakfast crowd. It can be prepared and refrigerated overnight before baking. Starred ingredients are available at Hansen's Dairy stores.

Cheddar and Mushroom Egg Bake
Yield: 9 servings
Time: 1 hour 20 minutes

  • 2 teaspoons Hansen's butter*
  • 2 cups sliced white button mushrooms
  • ½ cups sliced green onion, including green tops
  • 6 slices country style bread, cubed*
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese*
  • 2 cups Hansen's milk*
  • 8 eggs*
  • 1 teaspoon red or green hot pepper sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (optional)
Spray an 8 x 8-inch square glass or ceramic baking dish with cooking spray; set aside.
In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add mushrooms. Cook mushrooms about 5 minutes or until softened and brown at edges. Stir in green onion; set aside.
Place ½ of the bread cubes in prepared baking dish. Scatter ½ of the mushroom mixture and ½ of the cheese over bread cubes. Layer remaining bread cubes and mushroom mixture; set aside.
In a large bowl, beat milk, eggs, pepper sauce and salt, if desired, until well blended. Pour milk mixture over bread cubes and top with the remaining cheese.
Make ahead suggestion: cover dish with foil and refrigerate for 8-10 hours before baking.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake, covered for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes or until top is puffed up and cheese is browned at edges. Let cool for 5 minutes; cut into squares to serve.
