Perabacco
Nebbiolo Langhe
2020
$29.99
Fondly known to many as a "baby Barolo", Perbacco is always 100% Nebbiolo sourced from some of the fifteen different Grand Cru vineyards in Barolo. Recently the winery started using a small portion of grapes from its vineyards in Barbaresco as part of the blend as well. Each Cru is vinified separately, aged for two years in oak (as with the Barolo) and then a selection is made for expression of the vintage and then blended together. An incredible value, Perbacco is intended to show the full complexity of the zone and the Nebbiolo varietal to novice and seasoned wine lovers alike.

Moscato
2020
$14.99
Yarden Hermon Moscato was produced from Muscat Canelli grapes grown entirely in the cool climate, rocky volcanic soil, and high altitude of the Golan Heights. Stopping the fermentation of the juice quite early results in a wine that is lightly sparkling, aromatic and sweet. Its relatively low alcohol content makes it unusually light and refreshing for a dessert wine. This wine is enjoyable as an aperitif and goes well with desserts. To preserve the quality of the wine, the bottle should be stored on its side in a cool, dark place. Best served at 41 - 45 degrees F. Kosher Supervision: OK Additional Supervision: Rabbi Oyerbach

White Wine
2020
$39.99 reg. $44.99
This wine is our conception of a mythical “ideal” wine…a California wine with a spiritual connection to Friuli, Italy, but also drawing inspiration from the great whites of the Loire, Burgundy, Graves, Alsace, the Rhone, old-school Napa and Sonoma…actually the list of great whites we are inspired by goes on and on, and it is all wrapped up in this wine. This wine is an attempt at getting at the core of what white wine is all about, the archetypal “white wine,” thus the name. It’s a very intentional blend of four varieties from two vineyards.
The blend is roughly 50 % Sauvignon blanc, 25 % Ribolla gialla, 20 % Semillon, and 5 % Tocai friulano.

2020
$19.99 reg. $26.99
An expressive burst of aromas of deep dark fruits lead into layered tones of lifted red fruit and a soft, luscious mid-palate. A juicy, vibrant entry with notes of black cherry, black raspberry, fig, baking spice and fresh Santa Rosa plum, is interwoven with supple, textured tannins and acidity on the long, complex finish. Pair well with grilled steak, sausage and peppers with cheesy polenta, and pasta dishes with tomato-based sauces such as baked rigatoni or pappardelle Bolognese. Pairs well with semi-hard cheeses such as dry jack – our favorite is from a local Sonoma producer, Vella Cheese Company – and aged cheddar or gouda.
Tenuta delle Terre Nere
Etna Rosso

$21.99 reg. $24.99
This medium-bodied red is creamy and finely balanced overall, though a firm core of tannins structures the flavors of crushed raspberry, cherry and tangy mineral, with hints of dried marjoram and woodsy spice. Fresh and lovely. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio.

Ripe and lush as well as vibrant and fresh, thanks to violet and graphite notes that enhance the corpulent cassis, plum and blackberry preserve flavors. Delivers light tar, anise and roasted apple wood notes on the finish.

Brewery Spotlight:
Brasserie Au Baron
|
|
Au Baron last graced our shelves in the summer of 2020 and we are excited to have this iconic French farmhouse back just in time for Spring.
The town of Gussignies along France's northeastern border is blanketed in daffodils each spring. Daffodils have become such an important symbol of the town and its residents that a longstanding local law limits each person to just two handfuls of this coveted flower each season. It is no surprise that such an important flower graces the label of the area's most important beer - Cuvee des Jonquilles (Jonquilles is French for daffodil).
Brasserie au Baron's brewing operations date back to the late 80's with the Bailleux family resurrecting both the family's deep-rooted brewing history along with the farmhouse-style of brewing that is traditional to their pastoral surroundings along the France/Belgium border.
Au Baron specializes in just a handful of beers, but with 80% of their production dedicated to Cuvee des Jonquilles, it's no secret where this beer stands with the local residents. Certain rustics traits of farmhouse brewing are still employed at Au Baron, including the use of local barley, well water, and a direct fired mash tun. Along with their unique house yeast, it's the sum of these elements that give Au Baron beers a truly unreplicable character.

Cuvee des Jonquilles
$12.99 | 750ml
The beer is perhaps the most complex of all the French beers, quite like a Belgian saison, and reminiscent of the classic examples of that style from Brasserie Dupont and Brasserie de Blaugies. The Cuvée de Jonquilles is earthy, a little fruity, and richly rewarding, with a perfect balance of bready malt flavors and refreshing hop bitterness. Although it is described on the label as a bière de garde, it is refreshingly well-hopped compared to most modern French bieres de garde. It is also one of very few French beers that is bottle-conditioned, with live yeast left unfiltered in the bottle, where they quietly continue fermenting the beer, keeping it lively and fresh, and causing an interesting evolution in the flavor over time.
|
|
Nestled in a small valley along a creek, Au Baron just might win the prize for most picturesque setting of any brewery I've visited.
|
|
The fermentation room at Au Baron was one of the most aromatic I've ever experienced. That house yeast was putting in work! Apple chip esters for dayyys.
|
|
Cuvee des Jonquilles is arguably the best beer in France. This is the freshest I've ever had the opportunity to taste it - and on draft! Although highly carbonated, Jonquilles has a soft, round texture with an elegant floral, grassy, and orchard fruit influence.
A true masterpiece.
