We all know our way around Roadmaster, but did you know Cooper has been quietly rolling out their own premium Tier 1 truck tire line? They call it “Cooper Tires Commercial Series”. They divide the lines up into 3 segments: PRO - for long haul over the road applications. WORK - for regional and last mile delivery use, and SEVERE - for mixed service on/off road. Think dump truck, cement mixer, and waste hauler. These are all new and developed to go head to head with the big 3 brands, but at a better price point. Cooper tested these with large national accounts and in the process they’ve landed some OE positions on prominent new trailer manufacturers and even a slot on new Kenworths. Or yet another way to get more money back from your supplier. Attention all commercial tire retailers. Now you too can join a money-back associate dealer rewards program. Cooper’s commercial lines have come a long way and now they’re willing to share the wealth. The program name is Pinnacle and if you’re purchasing at least 50 units per quarter, you’re in the money. Support your local racer

By executive order: I pronounce all local independent tire dealers shall herewith and forever more select a local racer to sponsor. Jump into this family-friendly sport. It’s good for the grass roots racer, the tracks, the economy, and it’s low cost exposure for the tire dealer. You don’t have to go wild, maybe buy them a set of tires to start. Then get your business name prominently lettered on the car like the snazzy guy in the pic. Just be sure to check the spelling.

More supply on the way

Hankook and Falken are doing something about tariff and shipping problems. They’re going to fight back the old fashioned way. They’ve both announced major US production expansions. Hankook is going to double the number of tires they make in Nashville. The price tag is said to be $91 million and will allow them to go from 5.5 million tires per year to 11 million. Perpetually booming (and out of stock) Falken is investing $96 million on their New York plant to bump up from 6,500 units daily to 12,000. And since they’re on a roll, Falken is investing another $26 million on commercial truck production there. Their plants in both Japan and Thailand are expanding as well.

From an article in Modern Tire Dealer:

“In an effort to encourage motorists to check their tires during the winter driving season, in 2021 the Colorado Department of Transportation is recruiting tire retailers to join its database — a resource consumers can use to find a nearby tire store. The state says providing the list of tire stores is one way to help motorists be prepared for snowy and icy conditions. So far, there are 150 retailers on the state’s list.”
