The Conservatory K-8 at NPB

The Conservatory K-8 at NPB Pilots Plastic-Free Lunch

Classroom teacher Shanna Lillis and her students spearheaded "Plastic-Free Lunch Day" at the Conservatory K-8 at NPB in honor of Earth Day. The student initiative focused on reducing plastic waste and styrofoam lunch tray usage. School Administration and School Food Service staff served lunch on eco-friendly paper boats and compostable trays. Students bringing lunch from home were encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and containers. According to Ms. Lillis, "The students were happy to see the reduction of waste, and [we have] continued to use mostly compostable or paper trays since that day."

Student Climate Coalition

Speaks to the School Board

Recognizing the importance of student voice and engagement, the Student Climate Coalition aims to bring awareness and change to sustainable practices on their local school campuses, within the District, and in their community at large. The 2024 inaugural Student Climate Coalition cohort consisted of student representatives from the Central, North, and South regions who are passionate about protecting the environment and representing the voice of their peers. In celebration of Earth Month this year, members spoke about why environmental stewardship is important to them at the April 17th, 2024 School Board Meeting.
