We dedicate this week’s EZ read to the memory of Bruce Balonick (z"l),

whose commitment to change the world through political action embodies the spirit of JAC.

On Our Minds

This is personal.

This is our story about our friend Rep. Elissa Slotkin who is running for the Senate.

It was the summer of 2017 when we received a phone call from a new Michigan candidate from Michigan. She wanted to meet us for coffee to discuss her uphill race against a two-term Republican incumbent who was solidly entrenched in the district.

That candidate was Elissa Slotkin. After just a few minutes with her, we knew we found not just a very special candidate, but a winner and friend.

We were inspired by Elissa’s story: a CIA analyst with three tours of duty in IRAQ and service under both a GOP and a Democratic president. We were moved by her family’s personal struggles with a broken healthcare system. Her professional and life experiences had already made her a leader and she was great on JAC’s issues. Elissa was just the type of candidate JAC seeks out to support.

From that moment on and through her next two campaigns, JAC has been by her side as she has been by ours. We know can always count on her to defend our democracy and rights.

This year she reintroduced her Safe Guns, Safe Kids Act, a bill requiring safe and proper storage of firearms in households to prevent children and others from illegally accessing weapons.

Elissa always keeps in touch with JAC. She was one of the first candidates to contact us after the horrific July 4th parade shooting steps from our office door.

CNN has said that this open seat makes “Democrats’ already difficult job of retaining Senate control in 2024 even harder.” This will be one of the most closely watched Senate races of 2024. The GOP will stop at nothing to grab this from the Democrats. With a far right-wing, election conspiracist leading the Michigan GOP, the race will be ugly.

JAC is already rushing support to Elissa so she can be ready to face the attacks. Can we count on you to donate today? Early money plays a significant role in a candidate’s success. Elissa has always had JAC’s back. Let’s show her we have her back too. DONATE NOW.

Thank you.
