Eye on the NEW OCS E-Newsletter: More news...more often!
Welcome to the inaugural electronic issue of the Ontario Construction Secretariat's EYE on ICI E-Newsletter.
We have decided to launch this new format for several reasons. First and foremost, there is a lot happening within the unionized ICI construction industry. As an organization which is dedicated in part to facilitating dialogue among our members and providing value-added research, this new format will support the Secretariat's mandate to successfully present relevant news in a timely and more accessible manner.
This new E-Newsletter will be emailed to you each month. It will contain information on a wide variety of topics ranging from events, research findings, bulletins, industry trends and updates on various sectors, to name a few. In addition to reading about what the OCS is involved with, we will provide you with links to websites, videos and other resources to support our messages and further educate you on issues and information that are important to you.

If you have any comments, suggestions or inquiries related to stories appearing in the EYE on ICI E-Newsletter, please contact Fred Lehmann at fredl@iciconstruction.com.

The Government of Canada presented its financial plan last week [March 22], choosing to spend its way to prosperity over the next five years. In his first budget, Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau delivered billions for municipalities, First Nations, the elderly and families. It means an anticipated deficit of $29.4 billion dollars next year - almost three times the $10 billion deficit promised during the fall election campaign. Towards the end of the Liberal term in office, the deficit is expected to be $17.7 billion.

Eye on Future Building: April 19-21, 2016 - Western Fair District - Agriplex - London, Ontario

The future of Ontario's construction industry comes to London's Western Fair District [Agriplex] next month.  An estimated 5,000 students from grades 7 to 12, teachers, aboriginal youth, individuals and adults in career transition from southwestern Ontario are expected to attend, together with more than two dozen exhibitors.  The aim for the youth is to learn about working in the unionized construction skilled trades and to discover opportunities for a rewarding and satisfying future in Ontario's construction industry.
