2018 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & CONFERENCE - CELEBRATING 25 YEARS
Next month the Ontario Construction Secretariat (OCS) will host its 25
th Annual General Meeting and Conference in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We will celebrate 25 years of supporting our labour, management and government partners in the unionized industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) construction sector. We will celebrate industry research and successful collaborations, conferences and events. We will celebrate the growth and evolution of the OCS and our stakeholders.

#OCS25YEARS: A STORY OF COLLABORATION
In 1990, NDP Labour Minister Bob McKenzie, appointed then Professor George Adams (former Chair of the Ontario Labour Relations Board) to undertake a review of province-wide collective bargaining in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sector of Ontario's construction industry. Following a period of extensive consultation and industry collaboration, Bill 158 presented three amendments to the Labour Relations Act - one of which was the "establishment of a corporation, a tripartite labour-management-government agency, to gather, analyse and distribute data concerning collective bargaining and the economic conditions of the ICI sector in the construction industry". STAKEHOLDER PROFILE - ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO
The electrical construction trade in Ontario represents a significant share of the province's construction industry. Of all the electrical contractor/owners in the province, an estimated 500 in the industrial, commercial, institutional and residential sectors have a contractual relationship with the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). These contractors/owners belong to the
Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (ECAO), whose aim is to represent their needs and interests within the electrical contracting industry.

ONTARIO'S ICI PERMITS DECLINE IN Q2 DESPITE SMALL INCREASE IN COMMERCIAL SECTOR
Ontario's total ICI permit values were down by 17% in the second quarter of 2018 compared to Q2 2017. Commercial permit values in the province increased by 4% in the second quarter, amounting to just over $1 billion. The overall ICI decline was led by institutional permit values, down by 41% in the quarter compared to last year, and industrial permit values, down 21%. Despite the second quarter decline, industrial permit values in Ontario for the first half of 2018, are up slightly compared to the first half of 2017.

Quality Control Council of Canada was explaining why
UA Canada and its many locals in Ontario and across the country, had chosen to be the main sponsor behind a national fundraising initiative to help the homeless. It was called the Push for Change - a 17-month journey during which Joe Roberts pushed a shopping cart across Canada.
