STRENGTHENING THE BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES EXPERIENCE THROUGH DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

ONTARIO INSTITUTIONAL PERMIT VALUES DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY IN 2018, WITH INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL SECTORS HOLDING STEADY
ICI permit values in Ontario are down by 9% so far this calendar year (January-August compared to the same period in 2017), amounting to over $9 billion. The decline came from Ontario's institutional sector, with permit values down 37% so far this year. The other sectors both have had modest increases in permit values, with industrial up by 3%, and commercial up by 5%.

OCS 25th ANNIVERSARY GALA - A MAGICAL EVENING
It was truly a magical evening.
It was a full room at Queen's Landing in Niagara-on-the-Lake last month as industry stakeholders, former board members and staff joined with current board members and staff for a Gala Dinner and Program to reminisce and celebrate 25 years of the Ontario Construction Secretariat (OCS).

LOOKING BACK - 2018 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND CONFERENCE
The OCS AGM and Conference headed to Niagara-on-the-Lake in late September. Held over two days, our labour, management and government stakeholders had numerous opportunities to network and engage with each other. This year we invited Chris Cummins, a motivational TedTalks speaker, who inspired us to "think bigger" and "act bigger" while also encouraging us to develop a personal and organizational "GPS" to take us where we want to be.

As was written in our Summer Edition eNewsletter, the construction sector is also a charitable sector. Each year, Ontario's unionized industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) construction sector raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit organizations in need.
