7 June 2017 -- Mill Spring, NC - Proprietor of ETB Equine Construction Eric Bull, of Scottsville, VA is pleased to announce that he and his team will be the official course builders for the 2018 World Equestrian Games to be held in at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) in Mill Spring, North Carolina next September. They will build the cross country course for the Eventing Championship and the hazards for the endurance portion of the Driving Championship.
“The opportunity is exciting,” said Bull. “Every athlete wants to go to the Olympics, every golf course designer wants to build the US Open, and the World Equestrian Games and the Olympics are the top of equestrian sport. It’s a privilege to build the course for the WEG in Tryon.”
In 2015 ETB Equine Construction built the CCI2* level cross country course for the Eventing competition at the Pan American Games in Toronto. “Having done the Pan Ams will help enormously with working at the WEG,” said Bull.
Captain Mark Phillips will be designing the cross country course at TIEC. “I’ve probably worked with Mark more than any other designer,” Bull said. “When I was getting my business started he gave me a lot of opportunities and support, so it’s really special to do this with him.”
They will coordinate with Richard Nicoll, who is designing the hazards for the driving course. The driving competition takes place after eventing, and a number of the hazards will be combined with elements of the cross country course. They will share a North Carolina-based theme including the state bird and flower, and notable events in North Carolina history including the first flight of the Wright Brothers, NASCAR racing, and nearby Chimney Rock.
Bull already built the courses at TIEC for the 2016 American Eventing Championships and The Fork CIC3*, held in April of 2017. He has also built the courses for the Wellington Eventing Showcase, also organized by Equestrian Sport Productions.
“The first site-work was done last June and we started building portables around Christmas of 2015. It’s been a massive effort,” he said. “Equestrian Sport Productions is a fun group to work with, everything is always moving forward. It’s really just a question of if you can keep up, because things move fast all day all the time. It’s a really good group of people to work with; there’s a huge amount of skill and knowledge in that group, and it’s fun to work with people you like.”
