The Day of Preparation

Luke 23:48-56

After judgment, flogging, taunting, crucifixion

after weeping, wailing, pleading

after noon darkness, rent vail, and last breath,

a foreign soldier, too late, declares innocence

and crowds assembled for spectacle

return home to lament blood lust, shed

memory of injustice witnessed.

The man from Arimathea waits

in expectation requests the body,

tenderly wraps in linen

gently lays in virgin tomb.

Women following to learn the place

return home to gather and blend

the spices of life crushed,

all resting on the Sabbath.
