January 2023

The Agenda for Children OST Elementary School OST Network & Middle School Network want to wish all of you a very Happy New Year! We’re entering this year motivated, focused, and re-energized and can’t wait to connect with you in our collective efforts to serve the wonderful youth and families across the City of Cambridge.

The Transition Years (Pt.2) Meeting Recap

We want to send a HUGE Thank You to everyone who joined us for our “The Transition Years Pt.2” gathering on December 8th. Our Zoom sessions were full of positive energy and excitement, with great use of our imagination, reimagining what is possible when our ecosystem works together as a collective. The 4 transition groups were PreK→K, Elementary→Upper School, Upper School→High School, and High School→Beyond. There was an amazing turnout with over 40 program providers in attendance, many of who were able to attend 2 out of the 4 breakout sessions.

This COVID painting was a collaborative piece made by the Pop Artist Tribe. Students learned about Picasso's painting Guernica, a painting on war and trauma. Students then reflected on their own experiences during the ongoing global pandemic to make this painting.

During our time together each transition group built off of previous learnings, conversations, and events around supporting young people and families around these imperative transitions.

Innovators for Purpose

Are excited to announce that Robots that Make a Difference is back for its 6th year. Students from CSUS, PAUS, RAUS, VLUS, Amigos and CCSC have had the opportunity to build amazing robotics prototypes in our program. The joy of their accomplishments at the end of the program is priceless.

Please encourage your 7th and 8th grade students to apply. IfP is aiming for gender parity, so urge girls and gender-expansive youth to apply.

Families

AFCOST Parent & Caregiver Advisory Group

We would love for OST Program Providers to refer Parents & Caregivers to our Advisory Group!

  • Can you think of any parents or caregivers in your program that have ideas on how to improve Out-of-School programs?
  • Have any of those parents & caregivers faced barriers that make it hard for them to participate in Out-of-School Time programs?
  • Would they like to see Schools and Out-of-School Time programs work together to support children?
  • Caregivers will work on a texting campaign which will provide a weekly text to high priority families providing access to beneficial school and OST information and updates.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, they are a candidate for our Parent & Caregiver Advisory group!

Please invite Parents & Caregivers to join us on zoom Tuesday, January 10th, from 6:00pm-7:00pm to learn more.
