April 2023

Hello Program Providers & Community Partners!

On Saturday, March 4th, 2023 more than 150 Cambridge families joined us at the King Open School for the second annual Rollin’ & Summer Resource event where they were able to meet with 50+ summer camps, programs, and other providers to learn about available summer program opportunities. Amid live music and food--and of course roller skating--parents, caregivers, and their children were able to ask questions, meet summer staff, get to know the many options that are available to them, and register for programs of interest.

On Wednesday, April 5th, we will be hosting a joint ESON & MSN convening on Zoom, from 10:00-11:30am. Resources for You

Summer Slideshows and Follow-Up for Upper Schoolers

These grade-specific slideshows are being shown in schools as part of our classroom visits to CPS Upper Schools, to give young people an exciting peek into their options for summer. They also fill out a form at the end about what they are interested in - which kicks off our individual follow-up effort, where we help young people and families connect to programs and make summer dreams a reality.

Do you know a family who is looking for summer programs and needs assistance? Have them fill out the form (on the last slide of each slideshow) and we can follow up with them!

Network Spotlight!

Bridge Scholars

Last year, Isra Mohamed (now a senior at CRLS) teamed up with the Design Lab and the Elementary School Network to create a tutoring program for students in grades K-3 that was co-designed and led by high school students.

Today the program, Bridge Scholars, serves roughly 80+ kids around Cambridge, including their first prototype with the Cambridge Community Center. In addition to this, Bridge Scholars has now partnered with two DHSP After School Programs, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2nd-5th grade childcare program, and the Peabody K-2nd grade & 2nd-5th grade childcare programs. The program continues to expand with other out-of-school time programs, schools and organizations requesting tutors. Way to go Bridge Scholars!
