Concentric circle showing relationships between society, community, and individual

Happy New Year, OST Program Providers & Community Partners!

We hope you had a restful and inspiring holiday season.

Last month, it was great to see so many familiar faces coming together at our School Community Partnerships Meeting at the Foundry. The atmosphere was lively and buzzing with conversations around important topics like Social Emotional Tools, How to Circle up About a Child/Family, and Who Participates Where (and more!).

We hope you had the chance to connect with others and nurture partnerships during the meeting. (Be sure to check out our Directory of Attendees to view each other's contact information). Let's stay in touch and keep that positive energy going as we continue our mission to support our young people.

-Annie

New School Day Schedule for 2024-25 School Year for Grades K-8

Clock overlaying a calendar

Starting in September 2024, all CPS Elementary and Upper Schools will add 30 minutes to their days by starting the day 10 minutes earlier, and ending 20 minutes later. Here’s a link to more slides outlining what has been approved as the daily schedule changes for next school year.

Also, starting in September 2024, every Wednesday there will be an “Early Release Day,” which will equate to dismissals that are 30 minutes earlier than other days of the week. There will still be “old school" half days (which equate to dismissal times that are 2 hours earlier than a typical school day), specifically on the days before Thanksgiving, December Break, and on the last day of school each year going forward.

No changes to the high school schedules are planned at this point.

CPS Strategic “Excel” Tutoring Updates

Thanks to all of the insightful input regarding CPS’s strategic tutoring program planning collected at the September OST Coalition Meeting, AFCOST has been able to share and advocate for your ideas, questions and concerns with the district. So far, our voices have helped to elevate the importance of reducing after school scheduling conflicts for students, while increasing the exploration of opportunities between CPS and OST providers for collaboration and partnership – especially on behalf of our shared students.
