ESF in the News

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Gov. Kathy Hochul outlined a clear, aggressive, and achievable agenda for all New Yorkers with a particular focus on adapting and addressing global climate change and protecting our state’s natural resources.

ESF stands ready to assist, however we are able, with the design, implementation, and assessment of the Governor’s new “cap and invest” greenhouse gas reduction program, as well as the very timely, and long overdue, Waste Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act.

Governor Hochul Announces Green Purchasing Communities Program

New York State Governor Hochul recently announced the new Green Purchasing Communities program, a first-in-the-nation program that makes it easier for all forms of local governments to ensure the products they are purchasing have a lower environmental impact. This program aligns closely with the Center for Sustainable Materials Management's vision to galvanize and lead all sectors of the State to apply the principles of sustainable materials management.

Tell an inspiring story to move the Planet Forward

There is no story more gripping than that of our changing planet — and the solutions to sustain it. While problems range from climate justice to conservation, from rising sea levels to increasing heat waves, from the continuing pandemic to our plastic addiction, Planet Forward’s Storyfest is looking for the stories surrounding the people, ideas, and innovations moving the world toward a greener future. Numerous ESF students have entered and won the annual competition or become Planet Forward correspondents.

Enter Storyfest 2023

The Planet Forward Storyfest Awards highlight the voices of students, seeking to understand and illuminate their own innovations for how to best care for the earth.

The winners will travel with Lindblad Expeditions to Iceland on July 15-20, 2023, for an exciting opportunity to see and report on the environmental solutions, preventative measures, and innovations already being developed in the country.
