2022-2023 Club Tryouts

Some of our clubs may be offering tryouts from July 28th-August 7th. See the information below and club tryout listings to see if the clubs in your area are offering this option.

If you don't see a listing for tryouts from the clubs in your area that means they will be offering tryouts during the Fall Tryout period beginning on or after November 1st. You may contact the clubs directly to inquire.

How to Select a Club

Selecting a club is a season long commitment so we encourage everyone to take their time when accepting an offer.

Each club operates under ERVA Policies but are able to operate as independent businesses. You will see clubs have different business models from one another.

You make a lot of decisions where to "shop or take your business" as a consumer, make sure you take the same level of consideration when selecting a club! You are the club's customers and you have the right to feel confident and comfortable with your decision.

EDUCATE yourself before committing to a club for the season. Spending time researching your options will help you have the best season possible. If you need assistance in the process, the ERVA Office is happy to help. Please keep in mind we do not endorse any one club over another, but can help you in thinking about what goes into the decision and other questions you may want to ask clubs.

Offer & Acceptance Process

Things to Know:

  • An official offer MUST be a version of the ERVA Offer & Acceptance Agreement, this is a binding agreement to play for the club for the season. (Digital or Paper versions are acceptable)

  •   In addition, the player will be assigned      to the club on their ERVA membership      in SportsEngine on or after November   1st via the club assignment process.

  • Verbal offers are NOT considered official offers and are not valid or binding.

  • Official written offers are valid for 72 hours. This means clubs CANNOT rescind an official offer for 72 hours.

  • Clubs may not restrict players from attending other tryouts by requiring a decision prior to the 72 hour period expiring.

  • Players MAY accept an offer prior to 72 hours if they desire.

  • Clubs may choose to extend an offer beyond the 72 hour period if they desire.

  • Once an offer is accepted, players MAY NOT attend other tryouts or continue talking to other clubs about open positions on their teams.

  • Tryouts are NOT required. Clubs may extend an official offer without a tryout if they choose to do so.

Best Practices for Tryouts:

  • If tryout times overlap, contact the club to inquire about attending another date or time.

  • Make a list of questions to ask the clubs/coaches before or during the tryout period.

  • TAKE YOUR TIME and consider the answers to those questions, the environment during tryouts, financial commitment, overall philosophy etc. to ensure it is the best fit for you.

  • You may contact the club or coach as many times as you'd like during tryouts to ask questions.

.

  • Read the ERVA Offer & Acceptance Agreement AND any CLUB CONTRACTS/HANDBOOKS/POLICIES thoroughly BEFORE accepting an offer.

  •  Be educated on what you are agreeing     to, what their conflict resolution policies     are, refund policies, release of player       policies etc.

  • Work hard, be coachable and have a good attitude. It ALL about ability, coaches want to see a good teammate and a coachable player with supportive family.

  • Come prepared with snacks and hydration.

  • REMEMBER...Be ready to learn, grow your skills and HAVE FUN!

Key Takeaways

  • It's normal and important to feel uncomfortable if you're learning something new.
  • The best in the world struggle while learning but have figured out how to embrace that discomfort.
  • Some people say bad things to themselves, get small and act embarrassed when they make mistakes.
  • Mistakes are just opportunities to improve and that can't happen unless you're patient with yourself.

Things to Think About

  • How do you react when you make a mistake?
  • How do you want to react when you make a mistake? What would that sound like in your head? What would it look like?
  • What's something that you have an opportunity to improve on today?

Ways to Practice

  • Choose a teammate and tell them something you're going to work on this week during training and something you're going to work on outside of your sport. Check in next time you meet.
  • Try to catch yourself the next time you make a mistake. Are you treating it as an opportunity to improve? Are you reacting the way that you want to react?
