US Army General George Patton once said, “Train like you fight and fight like you train.” He was encouraging troops to train “under the conditions of the expected operational environment.”
Doesn’t it make sense for pilots to Train Like You Fly? This presentation will highlight differences between training like you fly versus training to a testing standard. Listen to Arlynn McMahon review the fourth edition of Lesson Plans that pilots at all levels can use to improve pilot skills and to Train Like you Fly.

ASA is grateful for the many dealers and retailers who make it possible to find our products all over the globe. Each month, we feature an ASA dealer here in ENROUTE and on our website. Our Dealer of the Month for August 2023 is Sporty's Pilot Shop. | |
|
In their words:
Sporty’s Pilot Shop was founded in 1961 by a young flight instructor. From the very beginning, we focused on providing the best products backed by the best service. While Sporty’s operations have grown over the years, our commitment to the customer has remained the same. From products for the beginning flight student to the perfect headset for a 25,000-hour ATP, Sporty’s only sells the best products. ASA shares this same commitment to the customer, and we are proud to offer their excellent products to our customers.
The very first product Sporty’s developed and sold was a small radio that could pick up airband transmissions. The idea was that student pilots could listen to other pilots on the radio to learn how to communicate. It worked. Product development continued to be strong as Sporty’s flight school was the perfect laboratory for innovating new products. Radios, training courses, bags, and kneeboards were all made for pilots by pilots. Today, Sporty’s remains a market leader in the development of new products.
In 1987, Sporty’s Academy was founded to develop aviation education courses and to produce videos that teach pilots everything they need to know about aviation. From weather and safety to technique and air traffic control, it’s all focused on real-world flying. Today, Sporty’s Academy is an FAA-approved Part 141 flight school and provides flight training for hundreds of students a year, including international students as well as for the University of Cincinnati’s Professional Pilot Training program.
Eastern Cincinnati Aviation (ECA), Sporty’s fixed base operator, provides flight instruction, rental aircraft, service, and fuel sales for Clermont County/Sporty’s Airport. ECA also operates, maintains, and manages all airport operations on behalf of Clermont County. Avionics installation and repairs are available on the airport through Sporty’s Cincinnati Avionics.
Sporty’s is one of the most respected names in aviation. With corporate activities in every segment of light aircraft from training to maintenance to aircraft sales along with hangar space for more than 150 aircraft, Sporty’s has evolved from the “World’s Largest Pilot Shop” to “More Than A Pilot Shop.”
