Inside Higher Ed, July 7:
When crises occur, all higher education leaders are called upon to shift their leadership style, yet the response to these changes may differ along gender lines, argues Rachel Schreiber.
AAMC CFAS News, July 8:
âTo move toward true equity, academic and clinical surgery programs must have more women leaders as chairs, program directors, and hospital executives. Leadership must also provide supportive environments for parents, including reasonable parental leave and breastfeeding accommodations. Preoperative facilities and operating rooms must be updated to provide equitable amenities for both genders. On-site child-care facilities would also improve the efficiency and productivity of both men and women surgeons,â recommended an article in MedPage Today that covered a study on gender equity in surgery. The piece was written by Paul Rockey, MD, MPH, a professor emeritus in internal medicine and medical humanities at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and Sarah Brotherton, PhD, director of data acquisition services at the American Medical Association.
The Chronicle of Higher Education, July 8:
You canât see the entire field while youâre playing the game.
Inside Higher Ed, July 11:
Concepts like efficiency, optimization and margin are essential if your institution is to thrive in todayâs challenging economic environment.
Inside Higher Ed, July 13:
Rather than focus narrowly on lagging male enrollments, consider what would it mean for a university to truly be a women-serving institution, Sanjam Ahluwalia and Frances Riemer write.
AAMC CFAS News, July 15:
Academic Medicine published an article on the barriers that women face in the biomedical workforce and why the pathway is especially challenging for women of color. The authors â many of whom have direct connections to the AAMCâs Group on Faculty Affairs â cite research related to the effects of institutional gender bias in academic medicine, including research on bias against women of color.
