Kickoff of EPA Grant Work Underway |
Last month, EIMA announced it was selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a substantial grant of $2.189 million, aimed at addressing and mitigating climate pollution associated with the manufacturing of construction materials and products. This pivotal funding will empower the EIFS sector to develop Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and robust Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), ultimately fostering a culture of transparency and eco-friendliness in our industry.
Since this announcement, EIMA staff have engaged in productive discussions with the EPA, laying the groundwork for this two-year project by reviewing its scope, workplan, and budget. Additionally, EIMA has established a dedicated Grant Working Group that comprises both EIMA members and non-members, which will convene in person on November 19th in Atlanta during EIMA's Fall Board and Working Groups Conference.

EIFS Liability and Insurance: A Changing Landscape for Contractors |
A recent article published by IRMI (International Risk Management Institute) suggests that Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) may not be as inherently risky as previously thought, advocating that insurers reconsider their broad exclusions against EIFS-related risks.
The organization argues that with proper installation and contractor training, EIFS can be a viable and insurable option in the construction industry. IRMI highlights the potential for underwriters to profitably insure EIFS by focusing on quality control and distinguishing between high- and low-risk contractors.

US Construction Spending Highlights - First Half of 2024 | |
The construction industry plays a significant role in the U.S. economy, accounting for about 4.5% of the nation's GDP on a value-added basis. Given its importance, it's valuable to periodically review and analyze the sector's performance. That said, EIMA prepared a comparative analysis of construction spending across major categories for the first six months of 2024, 2014, and 2004, utilizing data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The data encompasses a range of expenditures including new construction, improvements to existing structures, material costs, labor costs, contractor profits, and architectural and engineering services across both private and public sector projects.
As the figures are compared over the past two decades, several noteworthy trends and data points emerge. To review the comparison, click the link below.
