Celebration of Ministry and the Retirement of the Rev. Dan Krutz
St. Francis Episcopal Church, 726 Maple St, Denham Springs

On Sunday, October 5, 2014 the people of St. Francis Church in Denham Springs will join together for a Celebration of Ministry and the retirement of the Rev. Dan Krutz.  Fr. Krutz began in his ministry in the diocese in  Amite in April of 1974 in a cluster charge as Vicar of Church of the Incarnation; All Saints, Ponchatoula; and Episcopal Chaplain to Southeastern Louisiana University.  He then served as Curate to the Rev. Ralph Kimball at St. Andrew's, New Orleans from 1976-1981.  In September of 1981 he became rector of St. James, Shreveport.   During his time there the congregation raised money for the building of a new Church.  Fr. Krutz left St. James in early 1992 to become Executive Director of the Louisiana Interchurch Conference.  His position at the LIC allowed him, on weekends, to supply, assist in diocesan parishes and later serve in different capacities at a number of congregations including Trinity, Baton Rouge, St. Mary's, Morganza, the former St. Gregory's, Gonzales; St. Matthew's, Houma; Christ Church, Slidell; St. George's, New Orleans; and finally as Priest in Charge at St. Francis, Denham Springs from September 2007 until the present.

Many summers Fr. Krutz served as dean or on staff at Camp Hardtner and also served Chair of the Summer Camping Committee.  He has also been active in Cursillo and in the Happening movement for youth.  Fr. Krutz served as a Deputy or Alternate at a number of General Conventions for both dioceses in Louisiana.

Fr. Krutz and his wife Julie have two adult sons, Eric and Morgan.  After his retirement from active parish ministry, Fr. Krutz will continue his ministry with the LIC.

Red Mass
St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 4499 Sharp Rd, Mandeville

St. Michael's in Mandeville will celebrate a Red Mass at 10:30 am on October 5.  A Red Mass is a mass for lawyers, judges, law professors and students, government officials and all who seek justice and responsibility in government.  Red Masses originated during the Middle Ages and are so named because the clergy wore red vestments to symbolize the Holy Spirit descending in tongues of fire to bring justice on the earth.  The readings will focus on issues of justice and responsibility in the legal profession and government.  October 5 is the day before the "First Monday in October" when the US Supreme Court begins its session. All lawyers, judges, law professors and students, government officials and others who seek justice are invited to attend. St. Michael's will have a breakfast 9 am and all are welcome to attend the breakfast as well.

19th Annual Women's Creative Process Retreat

Solomon Episcopal Conference Center, 54296 Highway 445, Loranger

"Now I lay me down to sleep..." is how many of us prayed as children. "Our Father, who art in heaven..." may have been our staple in times past and might still be. We have all begged God, "Please", or prayed fervently for a loved one who is hurting. As we have grown older, married, had children or not, and been battered around by life's inevitable challenges, many of us have found that we want, or even need, some additional ways to pray. This year, with the Rev. Anne Maxwell and several presenters from the retreat staff, we will explore and practice some old and some newer ways to pray. We will experiment with art, dance, creative writing, poetry, scripture, dreams and dream images-to name a few.

You will find a healing and sacred space to celebrate your creativity-God's creativity-
which dwells in each of us, waiting to emerge. You will laugh, may cry and hopefully
rediscover joy you might have forgotten you have. The focus is always on the process and never the product, so please don't worry if you believe you are not "creative". All of God's children are creative and are welcome!! Please come pray with us.

Offerings: Worship, art, individual spiritual direction, sacred dance, music, Taize, creative writing, dream work, gentle bodywork (bring comfortable clothes), and renewal.

Fees: Single Room: $403 Dbl/Triple: $325 Deposit $ 214

Registration Brochure

What is Godly Play?

Godly Play teaches children the art of using Christian language - parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives. When Christian language is learned by the Godly Play approach, it is learned as a means to know God and to make meaning of our lives. This approach is quite different from the traditional model in which the teacher tells the children what they need to know. Godly Play is not about things that are that simple. It is not just about learning lessons or keeping children entertained. It is about locating each lesson in the whole system of Christian language and involving the creative process to discover the depths of meaning in them. It's about understanding how each of the stories of God's people connects with the child's own experience and relationship with God. Godly Play respects the innate spirituality of children and encourages curiosity and imagination in experiencing the mystery and joy of God.
