Dear Members,
Our team at ECESC has been growing over the summer! It is an honor to introduce you to the following new ECESC team members:
- Paula Fiscus will serve as our Secondary Instructional Specialist. Paula joins us from a long career in Wawasee Community School Corporation, most recently serving as an Instructional Coach for the middle school and high school. Paula will be overseeing work-based learning supports and secondary professional development needs.
- Taylor Philhower will serve as our Instructional Specialist/RIASEC Coordinator. She is joining us from Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation, where she taught middle school Math and previously worked as a Data Coach. Taylor's passion for working with middle school students on career exploration will be key to launching our Forge Your Future RIASEC experiences.
- Jane Haudek and Tara Bohn have joined our Training Support Specialist team through the Literacy Cadre. Jane previously served as an elementary teacher and principal in Michigan and as an Instructor at Western Michigan University. Tara has experience at the IDOE and has also taught in Randolph Central, Richmond, and New Castle. We are thrilled to have Tara and Jane join our TSS team and support our literacy cadre schools!
- Laura Hamm will join the team as a Regional Career Coach / Associate RIASEC Coordinator and begin her new role on July 29. She has previously taught in Wayne Township, Bolivia, Franklin Township, Cascade HS, and New Castle. Laura will be a key team member in launching our career exploration experiences and collaborating with districts on elementary and middle school career exploration programming.
We will be providing new, exciting career exploration experiences for students in the 2024-2025 school year and have planned a special Launch event in partnership with Junior Achievement!
We are excited to introduce you to JA Inspire, which will be held on September 18 for eighth and ninth-grade students from our ECESC member districts. This event will be held at Sunnyside Education Center in New Castle, and participation is free of charge for all member districts/schools. This will be the area’s largest career event for eighth- and ninth-grade students, attracting over 30 companies that intend to get students excited about the work being done today in their industries. Students will get the opportunity to explore careers in high-demand career sectors.
Before the event, Junior Achievement will provide teachers with an electronic, interactive curriculum that allows students to build a career plan, improve soft skills, identify career interests, and develop an “elevator pitch” that they can practice at the event. These lessons are designed to be teacher-led or student-guided. If you would like to view the video from a past JA Inspire event in Cincinnati, click on this link.
