FETA AWARD WINNERS

The Food Entrepreneurship Training Academy (FETA) is a free series on food business entrepreneurship sponsored by ECD and the East Bay Small Business Development Center (SBDC). On January 17th, ECD hosted a graduation and awards ceremony for the most recent Intermediate FETA participants. In total, 13 individuals graduated at the ceremony and three entrepreneurs received awards for their business plans as well as reimbursable grants for business expenses:


  • Ron Sellers of Sellers Ice Cream won 1st place and a $1500 grant


  • Rubelet Domingo of Crisps & Crackles won 2nd place and a $1000 grant


  • Peter and Natalie Laird of Mums Bakehouse won 3rd place and a $500 grant

The next Fundamental FETA series will run in early 2024 from February 6 to March 7, with a Spanish Fundamental FETA running from March 11 to April 8th.

RIBBON CUTTING | TERIYAKI CITY

On January 12th, ECD joined the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce, the San Leandro Chamber, and other dignitaries to celebrate the opening of Teriyaki City in San Lorenzo. The new restaurant is the second location for this franchise and is excited to serve residents throughout Alameda County. Please join us in welcoming Teriyaki City to the County's unincorporated area!

On January 18th, the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce held their 2024 Board Installation & Mixer at the Castro Valley Moose Lodge. The event saw the Chamber swear in their 25-member Board - including 2024 Chair Todd Anglin and 2025 Chair-Elect Janella Anguiano - as well as honor departing Board member & former Chair Julie Sumiki for her years of service. Congratulations to all new and returning Chamber Board members!

On January 25th, the San Lorenzo Business Alliance held its first meeting of 2024 at the new Teriyaki City location at 488 Lewelling Blvd. Representatives from ECD and the CVEA Chamber joined members of the business community and local residents to help foster greater collaboration and camaraderie throughout San Lorenzo!

Alameda County’s Administrative Minor Use Permit program – or AiMUP – has streamlined certain permitting for eligible businesses in the Unincorporated Area and assists in COVID recovery efforts. This allows for the approval of business permits for uses such as:


  • Outdoor dining, retail, and personal services
  • Community facilities
  • Pop-up spaces
  • Mobile food/retail
  • Musical performances


It only takes 5-10 days for most businesses to receive their permits through this program!

MOBILE CITIZEN APP


Alameda County utilizes a Mobile Citizen app that allows the public to report potholes, graffiti, and illegal dumping to the County's Public Works Agency. The app can be downloaded by searching "mobile citizen" in your phone's app store.
