A Pontifical Collection: Good Friday Collection for the Holy Land

Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land. On Good Friday, our parish is called on to support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives.

As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you are supporting Christians in the Holy Land. Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing religious formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and conducting pastoral ministry.

The Good Friday Collection is requested by the Holy Father. Please be generous in your support! A Collection will be taken up at the 7:00 pm Service on Good Friday, March 29.

VIRTUS Recertification Class

A Keeping the Promise Alive (Recertification) VIRTUS class will be offered on Wednesday, April 3, from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Main Hall. Please call the Pastoral Office to register. (For those who have taken the VIRTUS class in the last 4 years and need to update their status.)

Mass in Chinese - April 14

We will have a monthly Sunday Mass in (Mandarin) Chinese here at St. Luke Parish beginning Sunday, April 14, at 12:30 pm. Fr. Joseph Yang will be presiding.

We will need volunteers to help as sacristans, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers, musicians, and altar servers. With the help of all Chinese-speaking members in our parish community, let’s make this new development in our parish a success!

ST. LUKE FAMILY FUN DAY

St. Luke Catholic Community will host the 2024 St. Luke Family Fun Day on Sunday, April 21, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.

The event line up will include delicious food offerings, bingo, raffles, kid games/crafts/activities, vendors, boutique items, a plant booth, entertainment, beer/wine, cake walk, photo booth, silent auction, DJ music and picnic games, and more! It will be a day of family fun, community and fundraising for our parish and school.

Auction Items Requested

Our Family Fun Day auction was a great success last year and we could not have done it without our generous parishioners. Do you have something you would like to donate for this year’s event? This is one of the many ways you can help support our annual fundraiser.

Donations will be accepted in the Pastoral Office through April 8. A few ideas include gift cards, travel opportunities, tickets to sporting events or concerts, experiences, food, spa gift cards, services, tickets/passes, toys, jewelry, etc. Please contact Sharron at sharron@sharrondiot.com if you have questions.

Boutique & Craft Fair

Boutique vendor applications are now available at www.stluketemplecity.org or click here. Items for the Boutique are welcome! Donations can be dropped off at the Pastoral Office.

LIFE, JUSTICE & PEACE SPOTLIGHT

Nationwide Invitation to Prayer

The USCCB's president and the chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities announced a nationwide invitation to prayer.

On March 26, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case that could impact the widespread accessibility of chemical abortion (abortion pills). Chemical abortions are now the most common form of abortion in the United States.

The case is in response to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) promoting the availability of chemical abortion while ignoring risks to women and violating federal law. In short, the FDA has enabled a nationwide mail-order abortion industry and turned neighborhood pharmacies into chemical abortion providers.

When: Beginning Monday, March 25, and continuing through June, when a decision is expected.

How to Participate: Offer this Prayer to St. Joseph, Defender of Life daily for the end of abortion and for the protection of women and pre-born children.

Dearest St. Joseph, at the word of an angel, you lovingly took Mary into your home. As God’s humble servant, you guided the Holy Family on the road to Bethlehem, welcomed Jesus as your own son in the shelter of a manger, and fled far from your homeland for the safety of both Mother and Child.

We praise God that as their faithful protector, you never hesitated to sacrifice for those entrusted to you. May your example inspire us also to welcome, cherish, and safeguard God’s most precious gift of life.

Help us to faithfully commit ourselves to the service and defense of human life —especially where it is vulnerable or threatened. Obtain for us the grace to do the will of God in all things. Amen.

Thank you for responding to this invitation to prayer for an end to all abortions and for the protection of women and preborn children.

St. Joseph, Defender of Life, pray for us!
