SK Arts hosts sessions in southeast SK | The SK Arts Programs team is hosting learning sessions in southeast Saskatchewan, with in-person and virtual options. Program Consultants will be available for information and grant writing workshops where the public can learn about available grants, eligibility criteria, application procedures, and deadlines, as well as learn tools for writing effective grant proposals. The upcoming sessions include an August 28 session in Estevan and an August 29 session in Oxbow. Read more | Data shows immigrants underrepresented in SK arts sector | A new statistical analysis by Hill Strategies shows that, in most provinces in Canada, the percentage of the proportion of artists and cultural workers who are immigrants is below the equivalent percentage in the overall labour force. This was also the case in Saskatchewan, where immigrants account for 9% of artists, 7% of arts leaders, and 11% of all cultural workers — all of which are below the proportion of immigrants in the provincial labour force (15%). Overall, there are 340 immigrant artists in Saskatchewan, 60 immigrant arts leaders, and 1,800 immigrant cultural workers. Read more | Call for submissions: Artist/Cultural Worker revenue survey | Artists and cultural workers are invited to fill out a new revenue survey by the Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC), launched to capture current market conditions within the sector. With this initiative, CHRC aims to collect quantitative data from individual workers at a national level, to aid in future advocacy efforts. Read more | LIVE Arts back for another year | The Live Interactive Video Education (LIVE) Arts program is back for the 2024-25 school year. This dynamic distance education arts program for students Grades 1 to 9 allows educators to bring professional artists to their classrooms at no cost. The season’s first sessions will be led by performance artist Abhiroop Mookerjee in September and land-based visual artist Bonny Macnab in October. The 2024-25 LIVE Arts programming runs until May 2025, with sessions also available on-demand. Read more | Submit proposals for THREADS 2025 | The Saskatoon Open Door Society is inviting artists and storytellers to submit proposals for THREADS: Cultural Conversations. Métis Culture Camp builds connections between youth and Elders

Language revitalization continues to be on the rise. And, the revitalization of Michif is no exception. Not only does learning a language build connectedness to culture, there is significant proof that it also has the power to instill pride in youth.
Gail Johnson, Métis President of Local 269, took this into account when she helped create Michif Children’s Culture Day Camp as a part of the Connecting through Métis Culture initiative. Read more
