SaskCulture AGM: Member sessions announced |
Registration is open for SaskCulture’s 2024 Annual General Meeting and Member Session, which will take place in on June 14 in Regina. This year, SaskCulture will also be offering a virtual live stream of the Session and Meeting.
Those attending the Member Sessions will get the chance to learn from cultural leaders who will share their work and discuss key learnings made along the way: Eliza Doyle and Holly Yuzicappi from Community Arts Mentorship Program; Lisa Washington from the City of Yorkton; and Chanz Perry from SK Arts, Rhonda Rosenberg from Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan, community grant-makers Stephanie Bellefleur and Aster Ghebermicael, and Damon Badger Heit from SaskCulture, who will discuss their experiences in creating, implementing, and evaluating the Building Arts Equity – BPOC program. Register your events now for Culture Days 2024 |
Registration is now open for Saskatchewan organizers to add their interactive arts, culture, or heritage experiences to the nationwide network of free events, presentations, activities, workshops, and more happening during Culture Days 2024.
Registering an event allows you to take advantage of free promotional campaigns while also supporting artists and creators in your community. Organizers ready to register an event /activity can sign in or create an account by visiting the Culture Days website. Read more

Spread the word: Indigenous Voices of Saskatchewan concert | |
Help us spread the word about the Indigenous Voices of Saskatchewan concert featuring Donny Parenteau and special guests. Tickets are still available for the event, which will take place on May 30, 2024, at Casino Regina.
The multi-genre concert also features the talents of Val Halla, JJ Lavallee, Teagan Littlechief, The Journalist, Julianna Parenteau, Krystal Pederson and Dillon Gazandlare, accompanied by a five-piece back-up band (instrumentation of guitars, piano, mandolin, fiddle). The event will be an opportunity to enjoy the music and purchase artwork at an auction while raising funds for Creative Kids Saskatchewan. Read more

Sask. singer wins "Canada's Got Talent" | Prince Albert-based singer Rebecca Strong, a member of Black Lake Denesuline First Nation, won "Canada’s Got Talent" this week, making history and as the winner of the biggest prize in Canadian television history — $1 million dollars. After this win, she looks forward to giving back to the Prince Albert community and being an inspiration to other young Indigenous and Northern musicians. Read more | Sask. Order of Merit recognizes cultural community members | This month, the Government of Saskatchewan announced the 2024 Order of Merit honourees. The list includes Floyd Favel, from Poundmaker Cree Nation, who has worked in revitalizing arts, culture and language in his community, as well as Renu Kapoor, Regina-based artist, writer and educator, who has contributed to multiculturalism and diversity in volunteer roles with SaskCulture, the Regina Public Library, the India Canada Association, and more. Read more | Creative Sask. marketing and travel grants open for applications | Creative Saskatchewan has kicked off its 2024-25 fiscal year, with two grants now accepting applications. The Marketing Grant provides support for marketing and publicity to improve visibility and generate sales, and has two streams of funding depending on the scale of the project. The Showcase or Sell Travel Grant helps cover the costs of travel expenses to specific market opportunities. Read more | Sask. artist among first recipients of award | Artist Michael Lonechild, born in White Bear First Nation, was among the inaugural recipients of the King Charles III Coronation Medal. This new award was created as a way to acknowledge the significant contributions and achievements of citizens across the country. Lonechild was part of the 22 people awarded the medal, in a ceremony that took place on the first anniversary of King Charles' coronation. Read more | Council of the Federation Literacy Award receiving nominations | The deadline to submit nominations for the 2024 Council of the Federation Literacy Award in Saskatchewan is May 31. In 2024, the award will recognize an organization that has made significant contributions to literacy in the community, including the use of home and/or heritage languages. Read more | Arts of Celebration honourees announced | SK Arts recently announced the over 70 artists and arts organizations who will be honoured at the inaugural Arts of Celebration event on May 27. The honourees, who were identified after a call for recommendations earlier this year, are in four categories: Emerging Professional Artists, Established Professional Artists and Arts Leaders, Aspiring Youth Artists and Organizations, Festivals and Collectives. The Case for Universal Basic Income (Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy)
This public talk will discuss how Universal Basic Income (UBI) functions, showing how it differs from other redistributional approaches. Dr. Karl Widerquist, who specializes in distributive justice, will summarize the common arguments for and against UBI and presents the reasons for believing it is a tremendously important reform.
