Thank you to all of those I saw leaving the Sanctuary with Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes yesterday! I am still hopeful that this will be the year that we meet our goal of 200 boxes. If you go online to “pack” a box, please let Nadia know so we can count you.
Last Sunday we considered the question, “Is God Really Good?” Of course the answer is YES! God is good all the time. He is good, and He does good. If there is ever a time in which God did not do good, He would not be God. But, last Sunday’s question leads us to also ask, “If God is good, why is there suffering?” We will explore that question this Sunday. I hope you can join us!
I want to express my appreciation to Bro. Brad for singing the Don Moen song, “God is Good All the Time” in both services Sunday. I sprang that on him on Friday. He downloaded and arranged the music, learned the song, and did a marvelous job singing it in 2 days!
The Farmer’s Almanac was first published in 1792. The word Old was added in 1832 to make it The Old Farmer’s Almanac, thus distinguishing it from other almanacs. According to its website, “Every year around Labor Day, The Old Farmer’s Almanac comes out with its long-range weather predictions for the year! Our annual edition includes 12 months of extended forecasts to help gardeners, farmers, weather watchers, and folks from all walks of life plan for the seasons. We cover 18 regions of the United States (and our Canadian edition covers 5 regions of southern Canada).” What is remarkable is that over its long and storied history, The Old Farmer’s Almanac boasts an 80% accuracy rate! Evidently, mankind does a pretty good job of predicting our weather up to a year in advance. Equally evident is that people have been about to accurately predict the weather for a long time – at least for the past 2000+ years. Luke 12:54-55 records, “54 He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55 And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is.” Wow! That’s pretty good, huh? However, it is what Jesus said next that we need to especially pay attention to: “56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?” The midnight sky is getting pretty turbulent these days. Are you ready for what comes next?
See you Sunday!
