Every Thursday, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Learn the healing and calming effects of knitting and crocheting.  Socialize with others with the same interest.

Help others by either teaching someone to knit or
making something needed by a child, a senior citizen,
or a homeless person.

Bring your knitting materials!  Some materials may be
provided.

How To Interview Effectively  
Sunday, February 1

This free talk gives participants key tips on interviewing:  what to do, how to prepare, traps to avoid, and how to come across as the best candidate. Whether you're in transition or are hoping to find a better job, learning to interview well is one of the key steps to landing your next opportunity. We'll cover common challenges, preparation tips, how to get yourself out
of a tight corner, why asking questions is critical, the physical side of
interviewing (handshake, posture, gestures, eye contact and voice), and
wrap up with an overview. Please join us for this highly interactive talk that
will help you ace your next interview.

Jean Baur has worked for 20 years as a career coach in the outplacement
industry and has written two books published by major career presses: 
"Eliminated! Now What?" and "The Essential Job Interview Handbook."
This book is now being used as a text book at Mitchell College. She is
the member of the National Speakers Association and has earned the
highest credential as a career counselor.  Copies of Jean's two books
will be for sale after the talk.

Helen Farrell Allen has published and conducted programs on the history of  

George Washington since 1991. Through extensive research, she has uncovered  

many previously unknown facts about Washington's journey through New England  

and the New London area.

 

Ms. Farrell Allen will give a brief talk followed by question and answers from the
audience. Light refreshments will be served.

Introduction To Grant Seeking For Individuals

Did you know that the library has access to information on 100,000 grantmakers and 2.3 million grants?  Grant funds for individual endeavors  

such as education, research and business pursuits are not that easy to find.   

Attend this class to learn about the Foundation Grants to Individuals database,  

GrantSpace.org and other helpful resources.  A working knowledge of the  

Internet and Windows are needed for this hands-on session.  Space is  

limited to 10 people and preregistration is required.

Supper Book Club - The Glass Castle

The club usually meets the second Monday on the month, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.  Book selections are chosen by members a few months ahead of the meeting date. Copies of the book for January  are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk,  beginning January 12.    

Each month the club chooses a local restaurant that fits the theme of book to order dinner.   Menus are available at the Circulation Desk.  Beverages are  

provided by the library. You may also bring your own supper.

Take Your Child To The Library Day

What is Take Your Child to The Library Day? TYCLD is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. Launched in 2011 right here in Connecticut, TYCLD  

raisies community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a  

child, and promotes library services and programs for children and families.

Join us for the 4th annual TYCLD here in the Children's Room.  

We will have story time, crafts, snacks and prizes. Children or families  

who sign up for a new library card or renew an expired card can enter to  

win raffle prizes!
