It has been an active few weeks in our community. I would first like to thank everyone who attended our 2nd Annual Safety Services Night. We had a great turnout as everyone was able to meet our first responders and have an opportunity ask them about their jobs and check out the vehicles and equipment used to keep our residents safe. The fire truck bounce house is always a fan favorite! Many thanks to Police Chief Dennis Matejcic, Fire Chief William Turner, Service Director Brian Belfiore, and their staff members for making this a great event.
I will be delivering my State of the City Address on Thursday, August 22, 2024, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. I will provide a 2023 State of the City report and you will have an opportunity meet our City Council members, Department Heads, and representatives from our outreach organizations.
Grab your bicycle helmets and ride with me for our first Bike-with-a-Mayor event on Saturday, September 14, 2024, beginning at 9:00 a.m. In collaboration with Cuyahoga Greenways and Bike Cleveland, we will meet in the City Hall parking lot and then embark on a bike ride throughout Highland Heights that will end in the Highland Heights Community Park. The ride will be longer and than our annual Neighborhood Bike Ride that is held in June, and is geared for ages 14+. The purpose of the bike ride is to create a way for residents and elected officials to engage in conversation, experience the safe and not so safe walking and biking corridors, and together, make new solutions. I look forward to seeing you on September 14th!
The recent storms that struck our community resulted in significant tree damage and power outages. We opened our Community Center for residents to charge phones/devices or just to stop in and cool off in the air conditioning. Several notifications through our Emergency Alert system were issued. I cannot stress enough the importance of signing up for this free service to receive important notifications from our city. To register, please follow this link. In addition, our Service Department has been working expeditiously clearing tree limbs and debris. As a result of the storm, trees throughout the city will be evaluated and assessed by the Service Department throughout the balance of this year. This will be a lengthy process and I would ask for your patience as we continue to work through the damage. Thank you to our residents for coming together to help their neighbors and our community in need during these last few weeks.
Just a reminder that City Hall offices will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day. Trash collection will also be delayed by one day the entire week of Labor Day.
As we soak in these last few weeks of summer and with the excitement of a new school year on the horizon, please refer to several safety tips in this month's newsletter.
