We hope your household will join with the St. Bede’s community for our All-ages, fully bilingual, dinner-time VBS. We will be live on Zoom, Mondays at 6:30pm, on June 28, July 12, 19. Each Tuesday we will send out a YouTube video link to all who are registered, so if you can’t be there live, you don’t have to miss out on the fun! Grandparents -- this would be a great activity to enjoy together with visiting grandkids!
Theme: “Compassion Camp: Be loved. Be kind. Be you.”

Save the date! Victoria Esquivel is inviting all of us to walk with her at Dresden Park on Wednesday, July 7, at 6pm. More details to follow. Consider asking friends and family to sponsor your miles. This will spread awareness and gather more funds for our donation to #FreeBlack Mamas.
This year, our VBS, “Compassion Camp”, participants will have the opportunity to exercise compassion by raising money to donate to #FreeBlackMamas National Bail Out a partner initiative of SONG (Southerners on New Ground):
As described in their mission, “The National Bail Out is a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers and activists building a community-based movement to support our folks and end systems of pretrial detention [being in jail when you have not been convicted of a crime] and, ultimately, mass incarceration [the unique way the U.S. has locked up a vast population in federal and state prisons, as well as local jails].
“We are people who have been impacted by cages — either by being in them ourselves or witnessing our families and loved ones be encaged. We are queer, trans, young, elder, and immigrant.”
“With your generous support we are able to continue to bail out our mothering community members, provide life-changing supportive services, and resource groups who are organizing to transform the criminal justice system.”
How to participate:

2. If you would like to walk (on your own or with friends), you can earn $5 per mile walked up to 5 miles ($25) with a VBS challenge gift from John Entrekin.
3. If you want to earn even more money walking, talk to friends and family and see how much they would sponsor you for per mile walked. Have them follow the directions above for giving their dollars.

Fall Retreat for Women
including Nonbinary Folks and Transwomen
Hold the dates: Sept. 24-26, 2021
Due to ongoing concerns about Covid and the results of the survey we did about the retreat scheduled at Forrest Hills in September, we have cancelled that reservation. But don’t despair, plans are underway for a Women’s Retreat that same weekend to be held at St. Bede’s. This will allow us to have more control over our environment and still spend some concentrated time together catching up with each other again and renewing our spirituality after this long hiatus apart.
We did lose the deposit paid to Forrest Hills, and if you’d like to make a donation to defray those costs, please send a check to the church and let Muriel know it’s a donation for the retreat. If you were one of the folks who paid for the retreat, we’ll be in touch with you about your refund.

Healing Our Racism
Book Discussion Group

We will meet the 4th Monday of each month at 2:00 pm.
For our June meeting on the 28th we will be reading The Color of Law by Richard Rothstein.

Mostly Mysteries Book Group

For our June 28th meeting at 7:00pm we will be reading The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley.
During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of thirtysomething friends from Oxford meet to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students ten years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands—the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves.
The trip begins innocently enough: admiring the stunning if foreboding scenery, champagne in front of a crackling fire, and reminiscences about the past. But after a decade, the weight of secret resentments has grown too heavy for the group’s tenuous nostalgia to bear. Amid the boisterous revelry of New Year’s Eve, the cord holding them together snaps, just as a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world.
Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead. . . and another of them did it.

Vestry Establishes
Community Emergency Assistance Fund
In addition to all of the wonderful ways that the Community Engagement Team is leading us in supporting community ministry partners (locally, churchwide, and globally) during this critical time, the Vestry has established a Community Emergency Assistance Fund to help people within the greater St. Bede's community with food assistance during the current public health crisis. This fund will be administered confidentially by the clergy in a similar way as their normal discretionary funds, but will be used exclusively to help with food assistance during this crisis.
UPDATE of June 24, 2021: We have collected around $10,500 and distributed over $8,000 in assistance though food and utility support for individuals and families so far during the current public health crisis. The current balance of the fund stands at around $2,600 and new needs continue to present themselves. A dedicated group of members work with Fabio to help identify need and deliver food. Thank you to all who have contributed!

Episcopal Relief & Development
Launches New Spiritual Resource, Lectio Divina
Episcopal Relief & Development has created a new resource to guide deep reflection on Scripture. Lectio Divina, a Latin phrase that means “sacred reading,” will invite readers to join the organization’s program partners from the US and around the world as they reflect on brief passages from the Bible.
“Episcopal Relief & Development’s Lectio Divina is a form of centering prayer that invites us to listen to God and to listen to the experiences of fellow followers of Jesus from across the Anglican Communion,” said Josephine Hicks, Vice President, Episcopal Church Programs, Episcopal Relief & Development.
The Lectio Divina is designed to be used individually or by congregations. Each reflection contains a short video that provides an opportunity to connect to program partners who work with Episcopal Relief & Development across the globe. These partners share their personal reflections for each Scripture reading from the context of their life and work. New meditations will be added regularly.
For 80 years, Episcopal Relief & Development has been working together with supporters and partners for lasting change around the world. Each year the organization facilitates healthier, more fulfilling lives for more than 3 million people struggling with hunger, poverty, disaster and disease.
