Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Lakeway Police Department staff will be wearing purple ribbons throughout the month to help raise awareness, as well as lighting up the large shield purple in front of the Lakeway Police Department. A donation box will also be in the lobby of the police department for dropping off used cell phones if you have extra around your home. Lakeway police are collaborating with Secure the Call, a non-profit group, which wipes the phones clean, places the phones along with a charger in a zip-lock bag and sends them out to law enforcement agencies across the nation to be given out free to domestic violence victims. Locally, these phones would be handed out to Lakeway and Bee Cave domestic violence victims.

Domestic violence is prevalent in every community. Domestic violence can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and even death. An average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute. This equates to more than 10 million abuse victims annually. If you or a loved are in danger and require immediate law enforcement assistance, dial 9-1-1. As a resource, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is (800) 799-7233. The Lakeway Police Department also has a dedicated Victims Services Coordinator on staff. For more information on domestic violence, safety planning, exit strategies, and additional support locally, call (512) 261-2885. CLICK HERE for help with additional resources.

Deer Rut Season

Additionally, the feeding of deer is prohibited in the City of Lakeway. Food provided by humans can be an unhealthy alternative to their normal diet, and cause deer to congregate in populated areas.
