Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

July 07, 2024

Blessed is the Man

Psalm 1

Tomorrow we will take a deep dive into Psalm 1. But before we do, have you ever wondered why the word “Psalm” begins with the letter “P?” The answer has something to do with the weird way in which the English language has evolved over time. “Psalm” begins with “P” for the same reason that “Knowledge” and Kneecap” begin with the letter “K.” Blame it on the Greeks.

Further investigation of English reveals other words pilfered from other languages whose spellings make no sense in English – most of these come from France. We’ll rendezvous with

that thought later.

Whatever lack of clarity there is in English spelling, it doesn’t carry over into the wisdom we receive in Psalm 1. That’s the wisdom we’ll receive as we join in our worship tomorrow.

God's Blessings,

Pastor Oberdeck

For those at in-person worship:

A NEW BIBLE STUDY BEGINS

What Happens When I Die?

We ask ultimate questions, for which God has given us penultimate answers: What does that mean?

How has our view of the afterlife been influenced

by Greek philosophy, rather than the Bible?

What does a resurrection body mean?

These and other questions will be discussed

in this Bible Class series.

If you have a question you want answered, email

pastor@mtcalvary-mke.org.

JOIN US FOR THIS STUDY - ALL ARE WELCOME!

These are stand alone studies, one day, one lesson, so you are still able to attend.

P.S. We welcomed two new members. Are you next?
