Second Sunday of Advent
Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to
preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation:
Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins,
that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our
Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever
. Amen.

Christ Memorial Welcomes the Rev. Gae Chalker
Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Kilauea, Kaua'i, welcomed their new Vicar, the Rev. Gae Chalker, where she celebrated her first service with them on December 3, the first Sunday of Advent.
Chalker received a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and following a career in the entertainment industry in Las Vegas, received her Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1997.
For the past 17 years, she has served as Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Litchfield Park, AZ. In a letter to the congregation, she shared how she was a frequent visitor to Kaua'i since childhood and is grateful to be back on the island that "keeps calling me back!"

Annual Chrism Mass and Education Day for Clergy, Wardens and Treasurers
This year's annual Chrism Mass will be combined with an Education Day for clergy, wardens and treasurers. The event will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at The Cathedral of St. Andrew, beginning with the Chrism Mass at 9:00 AM. At this service, the Bishop blesses the oils of chrism (for baptism), healing, and the catechumenate, and the clergy take a portion of these oils back to their own churches for use during the coming year.
Following the service a special Education Day will take place in the various meeting spaces of the Cathedral. Clergy, wardens and treasurers will each have their own "professional development" sessions. For wardens, this will be a sequel to the Warden Boot Camp held earlier in the year, and treasurers will have an opportunity to meet as a group and learn about their roles and responsibilities. The day will end at 4:00 PM.
The cost for the day is $25 and includes lunch. For more information and to register click

Canon Susan Brown Snook, Chair of both the Episcopal Evangelism Grants Committee and the Executive Council Committee on Local Mission and Ministry.
"Evangelism isn't some scary practice only 'other' Christians do," said the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, Presiding Bishop's Canon for Evangelism, Reconciliation and Creation Care, and a member of the Grants Committee. "Evangelism is the heart of Christian life, and we hope this program will light a fire and connect Episcopalians who are creating unique, authentically Episcopal ways of seeking, naming and celebrating Jesus' loving presence everywhere."

This year's annual Queen Lili'uokalani Hookuikahi will be taking place at Kawaiahao Church in Honolulu on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 6:00 PM.
The date of the event represents a dark time in Hawaiian history when Queen Lili'uokalani was overthrown, but is now being recognized as a day of reconciliation and hope that focuses on the Queen's courage and conviction for non-violence that has been an example and legacy to her people.
The
Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center (PJRC) has organized this annual event to "educate and advocate for justice and mercy for Na Kanaka Maoli and all the people of Hawai`i in the spirit of reconciliation."
