Proper 5
O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your
inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by
your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Education Day & 50th Anniversary Shirts
50th Annual Meeting of Convention
The 50th Annual Meeting of the Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona, on Saturday 27, 2018. In conjunction with the Annual Meeting, an
Education Day will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018.
EDUCATION DAY:
The Design Teams will report on their work in 2018, moving toward the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i. The Design Teams have met to clarify and define terms, done research on best practices and discerned approaches as promising ways to achieve each goal. During the summer of 2018 the Design Teams will decide on approaches to implementation and conduct some pilot testing of their concepts in various congregations. You may be a part of these pilot concepts and strategies in your own congregation over the summer without your realizing it.
This is important and exciting work for the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i as we look to our future ministry for God and God's people together in service, witness and worship in Hawaiʻi. To register for Education Day, click HERE.
Register before September 12 and SAVE!

What's Happening in The Episcopal Church? Announcements from around The Episcopal Church & beyond |
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry Joins Other Faith Leaders in a Statement on Family Separation at Our Borders
Recently, the Administration announced that it will begin separating families and criminally prosecuting all people who enter the U.S. without previous authorization. As religious leaders representing diverse faith perspectives, united in our concern for the wellbeing of vulnerable migrants who cross our borders fleeing from danger and threats to their lives, we are deeply disappointed and pained to hear this news.
We affirm the family as a foundational societal structure to support human community and understand the household as an estate blessed by God. The security of the family provides critical mental, physical and emotional support to the development and wellbeing of children. Our congregations and agencies serve many migrant families that have recently arrived in the United States. Leaving their communities is often the only option they have to provide safety for their children and protect them from harm. Tearing children away from parents who have made a dangerous journey to provide a safe and sufficient life for them is unnecessarily cruel and detrimental to the well-being of parents and children.
As we continue to serve and love our neighbor, we pray for the children and families that will suffer due to this policy and urge the Administration to stop their policy of separating families. READ MORE to view the list of supporting churches and their leaders.

Our 1939 Moment: Continuing the Legacy of Welcome
Episcopal Migration Ministries and the Office of Government Relations is hosting a one-hour free webinar,
Our 1939 Moment: Continuing the Legacy of Welcome
, on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 4:00 PM Eastern (11:00 AM Hawai'i).
Presented as part of the World Refugee Day observance on June 20, the webinar will be a conversation about the history and present of the Episcopal Church's legacy of refugee welcome.
"Our present moment is not so unlike our past," noted Episcopal Migration Ministries' Allison Duvall, Manager for Church Relations and Engagement. "In the 1930's and 1940's, the Church was galvanized to stand for refugees fleeing Nazi atrocities in Europe. Today, over 22.5 million children of God are refugees, fleeing terror, persecution, violence, and war. We are called, at this moment, to stand for them."
Joining Duvall will be Lacy Broemel, Immigration and Refugee Policy Advisor in the Office of Government Relations, and Episcopal Migration Ministries' Kendall Martin, Communications Manager, for a conversation about the Church's history and heritage of welcome, and how we are called to continue that legacy today.
"
Our 1939 Moment: Continuing the Legacy of Welcome
will offer information, inspiration, and specific ways individuals and congregations can claim this legacy and this work as their own,' Martin said.
Broemel explained that
Our 1939 Moment: Continuing the Legacy of Welcome
will also be released as a podcast episode on Episcopal Migration Ministries' podcast, "Hometown," which is available on Apple Podcasts, GooglePlay, Stitcher, and SoundCloud. Each episode is also released on Episcopal Migration Ministries' blog,
www.episcopalmigrationministries.org/blog
, and featured on social media - @emmrefugees.
Registration is required and is available

Prison Ministry Seeking Support and Donations for Hawaiian Bible Study Program
In recent years, the Diocese of Hawai'i has become heavily engaged in a Prison Ministry at our correctional centers that has grown and continues to flourish. The program, which involves a deep connection to Hawaiian cultural practices, is interwoven with a Hawaiian Bible (Baibala) Study Program.
The Rev. Kaleo Patterson, who has been instrumental in building this ministry, is seeking to obtain Hawaiian Bibles for the Baibala Bible Study Project at the Halawa and Waiawa Community Correctional Centers. The program emphasizes the weekly study of the Revised Common Lectionary Gospel Lessons, and Hawaiian language/vocabulary. Hawaiian Himeni, Mele and pule (prayers) are also taught and practiced.
"These Bibles are very popular in prisons and encourage the study of God's Word," said Patterson in an e-mail. "It is a bright light and a lamp to the path and the feet."
These Bibles normally retail for $45 but are being provided to the program by Mutual Publishing on O'ahu for only $13.75. His goal is to provide 100 Bibles in 2018. If you would like to help with the purchase of a Baibala, checks may be made out directly to Mutual Publishing, and mailed to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1679 California Avenue, Wahiawa, HI 96786
