NYS approves ASAP merger with CBH

Jihoon Kim, IUA Chief Executive Officer, announced on July 3 that "we have finally received the final approval from the Attorney General’s office and from the Department of State for a merger date of July 1, 2024." Under the terms of this historic merger, ASAP (substance use disorder) and the Coalition for Behavioral Health (mental health) will complete transitioning all operations into the new non-profit organization, InUnity Alliance (IUA).

What does the merger mean for the New York Certification Board?

Founded at ASAP in 2012 by Executive Director John Coppola and a voluntary board under the Inaugural Presidency of Patti Juliana, the New York Certification Board passes seamlessly into IUA: NYCB retains the same credentialing industry standards in all our protocols, policies and procedures, and both candidates and certificants should experience no change or disruption in service from the NYCB Certification team, Elisabeth Kranson, Director of Certification, and Cathie Gifford, Program Associate.

The one difference you will notice in coming weeks is that, working with our webmaster, we will transition all branding from ASAP to IUA. This branding update is a significant undertaking, and we appreciate your patience. The process won't affect our services to you in any way.

The logo (at left) incorporates NYCB's new parent non-profit, honors twelve years - and counting! - of NYCB service to the peer recovery profession and proudly acknowledges NYCB's membership of the national Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). As John Coppola summarized, "We are committed to excellence in everything we do."

No change there!

In one of her first initiatives as NYCB's inaugural full-time Director of Certification, Elisabeth Kranson earned her professional credential from ICE, Certified Credentialing Specialist in 2020. We understand that Elisabeth is the only ICE credentialed professional serving the peer recovery profession nationwide. Congratulations!
