E-Link News September

I want to thank those who attended our monthly September Link meeting on the evening of Wednesday, September 10.

During our meeting, we discussed a number of volunteer opportunities for becoming involved with a wide range of activities.
Among them included opportunities to join Cascade AIDS Project's, Pivot's, and Multnomah County Health Department's Client and Community Advisory Boards.  We also discussed volunteer opportunities for becoming involved with improving healthcare in Oregon.

In this month's newsletter I am sending you information about these activities as well as providing you information about upcoming additional community events.

I hope, in looking over the volunteer opportunities on this newsletter, you may consider becoming involved.  Based upon our discussion during September's Link meeting, each of you have amazing ideas and leadership skills.  Those ideas and that leadership can be put to action by becoming involved.  Simply stated, we need leaders like you.

Best Always,

Help guide the direction of Pivot's programming!

Interested in becoming further involved with Pivot?

Pivot is seeking Community Advisory Board Members who can help steer Pivot and the programming that happens in the space.

This CAB is incredibly important to ensuring Pivot's programming is in alignment with the actual needs of gay, bi and trans communities. CAB members help prioritize issues and strategies for Pivot's community engagement, and act as ambassadors between Pivot and the communities most impacted by HIV.

Joining the Pivot CAB will only require a couple of hours each month. If you are interested, please use the ONLINE FORM

If you have questions about Pivot's CAB contact my incredible colleague Jaxon or call 503.278-3873.

MCHD Needs You

Multnomah County Health Department's HIV Services Council is seeking people living with HIV to join.

A large focus of this Council is to advise MCHD on how best to allocate Ryan White funds.

For some background, Ryan White is our country's largest federally funded program that allocates funds to support people living with HIV.  The funding for CareAssist, for example, primarily comes from Ryan White.

CareAssist is only one example though as Ryan White funds support a number of services including medical care services offered at Multnomah County Health Department to our local HIV+ community.

To ensure Ryan White funding is supporting programs that are based on our HIV+ community needs, the MCHD CAB needs your voice.

For information about this opportunity please visit the WEBSITE or call the amazing MCHD provider Margy at 503.988.8800.

Oregon's Healthcare Needs You

Oregon's heallthcare transformation is well under way and we need you to make sure all the overarching goals of Oregon's Triple Aim (see photo to the right) are accomplished.

A big shift in Oregon's healthcare over the past couple of years has been the transformation of Medicaid into a system called Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs = HealthShare and FamilyCare).

Whether you're covered by HealthShare, FamilyCare, or have another form of health coverage, there is a project underway called the Consumer Confidence Project which is seeking to help improve healthcare.  I am part of the Steering Committee for this project and we are in need of volunteers, leaders like you.

This volunteer opportunity would require a time commitment on at least two of three upcoming Saturdays with lunch provided.

Session 1: Saturday, September 20, 2014 - 8am to 2pm
Location: Oregon Public Health Institute (310 SW 4th Ave., Suite 900 Portland, Oregon)

Session 2: Saturday, September 27, 2014 - 8am to 2pm
Location: Oregon Primary Care Association (310 SW 4th Ave., Suite 200 Portland, Oregon)

Session 3: Saturday, October 4, 2014 - 8am to 2pm
Location: Oregon Primary Care Association (310 SW 4th Ave., Suite 200 Portland, Oregon)
