Roofing Project

Roof at Grace St Paul’s Episcopal Church

Tomorrow, the roofs of our church will be repaired and replaced. The first week is the removal of asbestos tile. The dust from handling the tile is toxic and can cause permanent lung damage.

We are asking all staff and members of Grace St Paul’s to not park or walk through the parking lot while the tile is being removed. Also, there will be

machinery in the parking lot. We don’t want to be in the way during construction.

Thank you all for helping us get this important job done safely.

In Christ,

Dave Robertson

An update on Oak Flat

Apache Stronghold attorneys have been working on an Amicus (friend-of-the-court) Brief to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals after the 5-4 rejection of the Stronghold's case.

The attorneys are planning to make a petition to all 29 active judges on the Ninth Circuit to rehear the case this month. This is the final step before the case heads to the Supreme Court.

The brief will explain to the court that there is strong support among a variety of religious groups around the country for preserving the sacred site at Oak Flat and will challenge the legal arguments that judges have used to rule against Apache Stronghold.

Whatever happens at this stage of the case, the attorneys expect that this case will go to the Supreme Court, possibly in the fall of this year. Grace St. Paul's signed on to the Brief this past week and it has been submitted to the court. Thank you for continuing to support Apache Stronghold in the battle to protect this sacred land.

Ministry opportunities at GSP:

Lector leader and scheduler

The time has come to expand our lay reader base, and turn over scheduling of readers to another person.

The position includes coordinating volunteer lectors, offering annual training (which could be done by another individual),

having language skills and scheduling readers based on the lessons and other factors for each 10 AM Sunday service.

It would be helpful but not necessary for the leader to take part in weekly liturgy meetings. Time commitment is approximately

three hours per month or ten hours per month based on whether the person chooses to take part in liturgy meetings.

Intercessory Prayer Co-coordinator

This position includes receiving and then distributing prayer requests to the intercessory prayer team. This coordination takes

place entirely on computer, so all of the activity can be accomplished at home or anywhere where you have access to a computer.

This facilitation is shared with another person. Time commitment is approximately three hours per month.

Beyond Bread pickup volunteers

Surplus bread is picked up from Beyond Bread's Campbell location and delivered to Grace St. Paul's to help local organizations feed hungry people. We are looking for someone to help the current Wednesday night volunteer, starting on April 24, and for someone else to take over the weekly Sunday night pickups.

Volunteer opportunity

Our JP Café is looking for a volunteer to help make sandwiches for our guests. Our Thursday volunteer is currently preparing to step down as they are getting ready to move East by June/July, and would love to pass the baton to others who share a passion for helping feed those experiencing homelessness. If you feel this is something that might interest you, please call the office or send an email to Fr. Gary at gary.cyr@grace-stpauls.org

If you think you may be interested in serving GSP in one of these areas, or would like more details, please contact Brooke, the parish administrator.

“Finding Spiritual Anchors in a Time of Anxiety.” This is our theme for April through June. All our services during those months will focus on some facet of this theme. Our Taizé service is coming up this Thursday, May 2nd at 5pm. It will be led by Deacon Nancy and held in the Chancel. This service follows a traditional Taizé

format, alternating readings and prayers with cantor-led chants. (Make note: our 2nd Thursday service will be on 5/9 in McBride.)
