The California E-Bike Incentive Project

May Update

Thanks for signing up for the BikeSacRegion365 email list, brought

to you by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates! Our team will be sending out occasional emails with updates about the California E-Bike Incentive Project and general e-bike information.

Incentive Project Update:

We are still waiting on an official launch date from CARB. However, there have been some proposed updates in the meantime:

  • Vouchers will now be $1,750 each, or $2,000 for certain zip codes and income groups. CARB has eliminated different pricing amounts by type of e-bike (cargo, adaptive, etc.) in favor of a simpler, higher base amount.
  • All bikes purchased with vouchers must have UL or EN certified batteries.
  • There will be six application windows of 2,500 vouchers, with the first window set to open in May or June. The windows will reopen every couple of months through 2025.
  • During each window, the website will cut off applications after the first 2,500 are submitted. This means interested applicants will have to be ready and available to apply the same day and time as the open application window.

In order to get your application in as quickly as possible once the application window opens, we recommend creating an account on CARB's ebikeincentives.org ahead of time. Unfortunately, the CARB website does not currently allow this, but it will be available prior to the launch.

Pedal Ahead, the nonprofit administering the program, has recruited retailers in preparation for the launch. Click here to see the map of approved retailers in the greater Sacramento Region.

We will follow up with an email when the application goes live or if there are more important updates prior to the launch.
