CFX HOLDS GROWTH & DIVERSITY INDUSTRY FORUM

On Tuesday, May 21st, CFX held our first ever Growth & Diversity Industry Forum. The event was designed to help small or minority-owned businesses learn more about upcoming opportunities with CFX and how to do business with our agency. Participants learned about upcoming projects in CFX’s new $4.2 Billion Five-Year Work Plan, how to collaborate with and connect with our dedicated Business Opportunities Department that specializes in supporting D/M/WBE and SSBE enterprises, and how to register to be on CFX’s vendor list so they are ready to bid when the opportunity arises.

CFX HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL OCPS STEM FIELD TRIP

CFX is committed to growing the transportation industry’s workforce - creating a pool of future engineers to develop the infrastructure needed to keep Central Florida moving. For the third year, CFX and several partners took more than 35 STEM – science, technology, engineering and math – students from Orange County Public Schools on a tour of transportation facilities to see how the latest technologies are being used.

The one-day tour started at CFX headquarters for an introduction to the agency and the technology behind Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV). Afterwards, the students participated in interactive breakout sessions about autonomous mobility at Beep Inc.’s headquarters in Lake Nona. Students were able to see first-hand Beep’s innovative autonomous technology and mobility services that are generating alternative modes of transportation within communities, campuses, and municipalities around the US.

To conclude, the Florida Department of Transportation provided a series of hands-on demonstrations at the District Five Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC), including a tour of their high-tech traffic monitoring and operations floor and a demonstration of the Smart Work Zone Trailer.

Now is also the time to start developing your hurricane action plan so that you and your loved ones can be prepared and stay safe. Things you can do now:

  • Make a plan: Prepare your home, decide on where you will shelter, and gather necessary tools and supplies.
  • Gather your supplies: Stock up on food, water, medications, first aid supplies, important documents, flashlights, batteries, and pet supplies.
  • Have an evacuation plan: Discuss evacuation steps with your family and check local shelters for special needs accommodations.

Our expressways are ready to handle increased traffic and emergency responses during a serious storm. Here are a few things to consider if you need to evacuate:

  • Choose an evacuation location far from the storm's predicted impact zone.
  • Inspect your car’s battery, tires, wipers, lights, and spare tire.
  • Plan your route in advance, including an alternate route, and allow extra time.
  • Leave early to avoid being stranded or rerouted.
  • Never drive through standing water.
