Drive Sober or

Get Pulled Over

August 16th - Labor Day, September 2nd

Safe Roads, Safe Summer

As Labor Day approaches, families and friends will be coming together to celebrate!

Unfortunately, this time of the year we also see an increase in drunk-driving fatalities.

To ensure everyone's safety, local law enforcement will be in full force to support the

2024 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

Between August 16th and September 2nd, 2024, law enforcement officers nationwide, including Sussex County, will team up with the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to take part in this high-visibility enforcement pulling over drunk divers.

Does this Picture Look Familiar?

You might have seen this image of our Sussex County youth as a billboard on Rt 23 in Franklin or as lawn signs at various high schools and police departments in Sussex County!

One way we are spreading the message to drive responsibly is through our youth.

For some students, this school year might be their first time driving themselves to school. For others, they feel confident driving by themselves or with their friends. No matter how much experience students have behind the wheel, it's important to discuss with them tips on how to stay safe while on the road. Below are some resources to share with students on tips to be a responsible driver!

Safe Driving is Key

Understand the Risks:

Driving while impaired by any substance, legal or illegal, is dangerous and can put both you and others at risk of being harmed.

Alcohol, drugs, and certain medications can reduce coordination, slow down reaction time, and impair decision-making skills.

All of these skills are crucial for safe and responsible driving.

Help Keep You and Others Safe:

Making these decisions ahead of time ensures everyone comes home safely.

  • Plan your safe ride home before attending events.
  • Choose a friend who won't drink as a designated driver (DD).
  • Call a taxi, ride-sharing service, or a sober friend to take you home.
  • If you know a person has been drinking, don't let them drive.
