CENTER FOR INTERCULTURAL EXCELLENCE | International Dinner

One of the best, most fun, most exciting events of the year is just around the corner!

Tiffin University’s Center for InterculTUral Excellence will host the 33rd Annual International Dinner on March 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gillmor Student Center Gymnasium. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. This year’s dinner theme is “Unbuntu: I Am Because We Are,” a South African phrase emphasizing the importance of the bond humanity shares.

The event celebrates the cultures of the University’s international students. Currently, 35 countries are represented within the TU community. The dinner will feature cuisine from around the globe, musical and artistic performances and more.

“The Annual International Dinner provides a great opportunity for the Tiffin community to learn about different perspectives and practices from around the world,” said Javier Solorzano Parada. “This year's theme highlights the interconnectedness of humanity while celebrating diversity and promoting a sense of belonging. I'm particularly excited about the diverse food options worldwide that will be available at the event. As someone born in Mexico City, I'm eager for others to share a piece of their culture, embracing a diverse range of experiences for everyone to take in”

STUDY ABROAD | How your student can gain amazing experience

International experiences greatly affect individuals at the personal, academic and professional levels. The exposure to adverse situations and new environments that study abroad provides not only enables students to be more flexible and adapt to new surroundings, but it helps to develop knowledge, skills and abilities that are desirable in any professional setting.

“Studying abroad was one of the best decisions I made during my undergraduate career at Tiffin University. Some of the most valuable skills employers are looking for can be developed by stepping out of your comfort zone. Studying abroad allowed me to try new foods and meet people at my university that I would not have met otherwise had I not taken a chance. Take, for instance, critical thinking and problem-solving. A large majority of my time abroad was spent not knowing what or where we were even going. There would be moments where we would be lost, in a country where we seldom knew people. It was times like that where thinking on the fly came to play, as we used our resources and became friendly with the locals. In my career, there are many instances when I don’t have an immediate answer for a client or a colleague. These are great opportunities to utilize my resources, such as my boss or another colleague who can point me in the right direction.

- Autumn Cooper , Class of 2020
