Modified Bell Schedule this Thursday

On Thursday, May 9th we will be on the modified bell schedule for testing of Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC’s. Please see below and for anyone testing, please make sure to bring your charged computer on test day!
Panthers are Esports State Champions!

We are so excited to announce to everyone that our DP’s Esports team just won their first-ever state championship in Mario Kart!

It was a bit of an adjustment for our players playing in front of a crowd, but after a couple of close come-back sets our team settled the nerves and blew out the 3rd set to make it a clean sweep against West Orange!

Please, if you see any of the members of the team (pictured above and just below)—Addison 'Dyson' Stoetzer, Tommy Lazzaro, Cameron Weeks, Isiah Bien-Amie and Isa Rivera—make sure to congratulate them for all of their hard work this year.
With this win, they now qualify for the PlayVs Cup which will pit us against other champions from around the country with scholarships and prizes on the line!

They will continue to prove that they are 'Never Less Than The Best' as they continue on their journey!

Of the entire team and this success, Principal Ramsey had this to say: The suspense was nerve racking. The team members represented DP well in ESports as well as character. They were respectful and humble. Thanks for all you do to promote a place where everyone fits in somewhere at Dr. Phillips."

For those that don’t know, E-Sports is officially sanctioned by the FASA and now the FHSAA is pursuing it.

Congrats to the first State Champions in the inaugural season!

Teacher Appreciation Week '24 begins this Monday!!
Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated across the U.S. each year during the first full week of May. This week is set out to acknowledge the dedication of teachers to their students and communities. Our educators began preparing for the 2023-2024 school year during their annual pre-planning week on August 2, 2023 and since that Wednesday morning, have done their very best to make sure our Panthers had a high quality educational experience all year.

Just above are a couple of options if, in your opinion, one or more of our DP educators, coaches, counselors or other staff members have done a fine job this year. Any appreciation coming from one of our Panther students or their parents means a great deal and is tremendously appreciated. Thank you very much for remembering our teachers during this special week!
JFK On Teachers
We the people of America have entrusted into your hands the future leaders of this nation, the most powerful nation on Earth - and the way in which you fulfill this trust, in the guidance and direction you give to America's youth, will have a more profound effect on our national future than perhaps any decision made in Congress.
~ John F. Kennedy, 35th US president

Oprah Winfrey On Mary Duncan
Because of Ms. Duncan (her 4th grade teacher), I felt I could take on the world. She did exactly what teachers are supposed to do, they create a spark for learning that lives with you from then on. It's why I have a talk show today.
~ Oprah Winfrey, media mogul

Malala Yousafzai On Education
Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.

Important continuing reminder for Seniors - FAFSA (College financial aid form):
Seniors!

The FAFSA rollout this year has changed from years past and has shown some complications. The Department of Education along with the colleges and universities you have applied to are aware of these issues and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible.

Right now, the MOST important part of this process you can do is complete the FAFSA. Submitting the FAFSA form will allow colleges to eventually have access to your family income information to provide you with the Financial Aid information you so importantly need. Please remember this very important part, without completing the FAFSA, you will not receive a financial aid award from your college or university.

What you will need for your FAFSA application:
● Your Security Number
● Completed FSA ID: (Click here to complete)

What your Parent will Need:
● Their 2022 Completed Taxes (1040 Tax Return Form)
● Their Social security number
● Completed FSA ID: (Click here to complete)

I understand this form can pose many questions. Please use these resources below to receive assistance in completing the FAFSA Form:
● EVERY Walk-In Tuesday: You can meet with me or Ms. Maclean in the Media Center
In-Person and Virtual Valencia FAFSA Help Sessions: Recommended for students who plan on attending Valencia after graduation
● After School in-person opportunities that will be shared via canvas and Instagram @DPHS_CCS

Please NoteWe do not have access to your FAFSA form or any personal or financial information you or your family provide on the FAFSA form. Our role is to 1) Inform you of the importance of every student completing a FAFSA and 2) Support you and your family with information and resources to help you have a completed and successfully processed FAFSA.
*** FAFSA Completion Information + Tips! ***

1. ALL Seniors are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. Nearly all colleges, whether it is trade/technical or 2- and 4- year school, will REQUIRE students to complete a FAFSA regardless of financial need.

2. Your FAFSA will be processed in order of timestamp when you submit it, so please complete it ASAP!

3. Do everything you can to complete an error free FAFSA as corrections are not able to be made at this time. Errors WILL delay your FAFSA processing and a college’s ability to offer you a complete financial aid package.

- ISIR’s are “Institutional Student Information Records.” This is the information a college receives from the Department of Education about your FAFSA so the college’s financial aid office can prepare a financial aid offer package to you.

The colleges you have been accepted to CANNOT offer you a complete financial aid offer package until they receive your ISIR from the Department of Education after your FAFSA is processed successfully. If you have questions about financial aid or the implications of your FAFSA the best resource is the Financial Aid office at the college you are going to.

Need to complete your FAFSA? > visit www.studentaid.gov Help and support resources can be found on the FAFSA YouTube channel and FAFSA Help Page.

Completed your FAFSA? > It’s time to login to your FAFSA and do a status check.

- If your FAFSA says “Successfully Processed” there is NOTHING else you need to do at this time except learn about your FAFSA Submissions Summary and your SAI (more information below on that) You can relax and wait for your financial aid offer from your colleges. 😊

  • Financial Aid offers are usually available in your student account portal where you accessed your admissions decision
  • Some colleges will also mail you a paper copy.

- If your FAFSA needs corrections it will look like this…
- Identify the correction(s) that is needed, but please note, you are NOT able to make corrections at this time. “Mid April” is the anticipated timeframe the Department of Education expects that students will have the ability to make corrections or submit updates.

I completed my FAFSA and have a “Successfully Processed” message, now what?

1. Locate and Read your FAFSA Submission Summary

The FAFSA Submission Summary is a paper or electronic document from the U.S. Department of Education’s office of Federal Student Aid that lists answers to the questions on your FAFSA and gives you basic estimates about your eligibility for federal student aid. It is not a financial aid offer. A financial aid offer will come from each college you have been accepted to AFER they receive and evaluate your ISIR from the Department of Education.

If the FAFSA form is complete and processed successfully, a Student Aid Index (SAI) will be included on your FAFSA Submission Summary. (See below for more information on SAI)

If you provided a valid email on your FAFSA, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access an online copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary.

2. Understand your SAI (Student Aid Index) and what it means for you?

Understanding your SAI is important! The SAI, or Student Aid Index, is the number calculated, with information from the FAFSA, to determine a student's eligibility for college financial aid. It is NOT a dollar amount of federal financial aid you will receive or the amount of money your family is expected to pay for college. It is determined using a specific formula that considers things like a family's taxed and untaxed income, retirement and pensions, and assets/benefits like Social Security or unemployment payments and it can change if you make corrections and updates to your FAFSA.

Your college or career school will determine your financial need by subtracting your SAI from the cost of attendance.

A huge congratulations to Tyler Scarborough whose art piece of their grandmother, “Life Well Lived” was selected to be featured in Celebrating Art's Spring 2024 Art Anthology (sponsored by Blick art materials, the very paints she used to make it)! School Policies and Procedures
An important reminder from the attendance office:
At this time, any student who has had their license suspended due to truancy is unable to have it reinstated.

A graduating senior can take their diploma (original) to the DMV and that would clear them. Underclassmen must wait until we start school again on August 12th (this would be day 1) and they would be eligible on September 24th. As a reminder, weekends and holidays do not count towards the 30-day perfect attendance which is required to clear the issue.

All of this information is written on the DMV letter which was sent in the mail prior to your license or permit being suspended.

If the above applies to you, please remember: Driving with a suspended license in Florida is a 2nd degree misdemeanor. What happens if you get pulled over with a suspended license in Florida?

First Conviction: The first time you are charged with driving on a suspended license, it can be charged as a second-degree misdemeanor. You can face a fine of up to $500 as well as up to 60 days in jail. Second Conviction: Second convictions may result in a first-degree misdemeanor.

Thank you for reading.
