Dr. Pam Cunningham Supports Lorenzo Walker Technical High School

Dear Friends,

This week, Collier County residents were shaken to hear that our school district has decided to close its highest performing high school, Lorenzo Walker Technical High School.

If you are like most, you are wondering why the district would make a decision to close a school that not only far outperforms its other high schools, but also provides each of its students the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized certification in one of several career/technical fields.

And what's worse is that the bureaucracy made the decision to close the school without even consulting with our elected representatives: our school board!

While the district claims that closing Lorenzo Walker Technical High School will provide more opportunity for juniors, seniors, and college level attendees, this clip from the founding Lorenzo Walker principal clearly explains why this is not the case.

When you have a school that:

is the district's highest ranked high school,
is the district's only Blue Ribbon High School,
provides all of its students with the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certification in career and technical training,
does all of this while boasting an 85% minority and 50% economically disadvantaged enrollment,

YOU SHOULD NOT CLOSE THE SCHOOL! YOU SHOULD ATTEMPT TO REPLICATE IT AS A MODEL OF EXCELLENCE!

Friends, we need leadership on the Collier County School Board! We need common-sense, intelligent, decision making!
